Role Description
We are seeking a reliable and professional Hospital Porter to join our Portering Team on a 12‑month fixed‑term contract. The Portering Department plays a vital role in the smooth and efficient running of the Hospital by providing a high‑quality portering service to all departments.
This is a patient‑facing role that requires excellent interpersonal skills, a strong sense of responsibility, and the ability to respond promptly in both routine and emergency situations.
The post holder will be responsible for a wide range of portering duties, including:
- Escorting and assisting patients with their personal belongings during admission and discharge, and accompanying them between reception/waiting areas and wards
- Safely conveying patients on trolleys between wards, operating theatres, and the X‑Ray department
- Transporting patients in wheelchairs to and from departments for diagnostic examinations and treatment
- Sorting incoming consultant mail and filing it accurately in consultant folders
- Collecting consultant folders from outpatient areas and filing them in the appropriate consultant cabinets
Qualifications
- Standard educational qualifications
- Five GCSEs (or equivalent) desirable
- Basic computer skills desirable
- Full UK Driving Licence (required)
Knowledge
- Knowledge of customer care principles
- Awareness of health and safety standards within a healthcare environment
Experience
- Minimum of 6 months’ experience in a similar role and/or environment
- Previous Hospital Porter experience desirable
