Role profile

We have a fantastic opportunity for an HR Advisor to join our collaborative and ambitious Human Resources team.

In this role you’ll work closely with practice group leaders and the operations team, providing support and guidance on a range of HR matters to one of our fee‑earning Practice Groups. The team is on a very exciting journey at the moment, involved in a number of strategic priorities and transformation projects.

This is a permanent, part‑time position based in our Bristol office, with hybrid working and occasional travel to our other UK offices as required. We are ideally looking for someone to work the equivalent of three days per week, and are flexible on how this is arranged (for example, three full days or three days’ hours spread across five).

Role purpose

To provide high-quality, proactive HR support to the Practice Group, working closely with the HRBP to deliver a data-driven HR service that is closely aligned with the Practice Group’s strategy and commercial priorities. This role will suit an Adviser who is confident operating in a technical, high-performing environment and who enjoys preparing insight and options that enable effective decision-making.

Key Responsibilities

  • Act as first point of contact for fee earners and support teams within the Practice Group, providing timely and commercially-focused HR advice consistent with the teams' business goals
  • Work in partnership with the HRBP to develop strong and trusted line manager relationships, coaching managers in a way that builds management capability
  • Assist managers in sustaining our high-performance culture through proactive informal and formal performance management procedures
  • Actively monitor and analyse attendance, coaching managers to manage attendance, including Occupational Health referrals and identify cases of potential concern with the HRBP and managers
  • Effectively manage a range of disciplinary / grievance processes, providing professional advice to investigating and hearing managers, escalating to the HRBP where necessary
  • Support business areas to spot trends through people data (e.g. headcount, turnover, absence, performance, etc), working with the HRBP to identify trends, risks and opportunities, providing data driven insights
  • Support HRBP and managers with interpreting and presenting engagement survey data and other feedback, helping develop practical action plans with partners and managers
  • Support managers and HRBPs on cyclical projects such as performance reviews, pay review, talent processes and promotion processes
  • Support HRBP on strategic projects
  • Coordinate client secondments
  • Support HR Assistants in carrying out maternity and shared parental leave meetings and processes
  • Mentor and act as an escalation point for HR Assistants, providing cover for HR Advisers and HR Assistants when required
  • Keep Talent Tracker and resourcing forecasting up-to-date
  • Take part in fortnightly HR Inductions for new joiners
  • Actively manager your own personal training and development, identifying any suitable development opportunities
  • Any other duties that may be required to ensure the efficient operation of the Departments you are supporting

  • What We're Looking For

    • A confident communicator with the ability to establish productive relationships with people at all levels
    • Have a thorough understanding of UK employment law and policies, with the ability to apply these in a commercial and pragmatic way
    • Be able to demonstrate an in-depth knowledge of typical HR processes and procedures including employee relations matters

    • Have the ability to gather, interpret and manage highly confidential and sensitive information
    • Be experienced in prioritising in a busy and demanding environment
