What you'll be working on
Over eight weeks, you’ll gain hands‑on experience at the heart of our HR Division, contributing to real work that helps improve how we support colleagues across the business.
You won’t be limited to one area either. During your placement, you’ll rotate across several HR teams, including Reward, Employee Experience, Employee Relations and People Insights, giving you a broad understanding of how each part of HR contributes to our overall people strategy. These rotations will help you explore how data, technology and user‑centred design shape the employee journey, while also giving you the chance to build relationships, develop core HR skills and discover where your interests lie.
Throughout the internship, you’ll support a variety of meaningful tasks: updating project plans, analysing HR data, supporting process improvements, producing clear and engaging visuals for project updates, and contributing to discussions that help teams make informed decisions. You’ll also play a key role in supporting project work linked to upcoming employment legislation changes and the FCA’s Non‑Financial Misconduct regulation.
You’ll be surrounded by supportive colleagues who value fresh thinking and will help you build the confidence, capability and insight you need to take your next steps.
How we'll support you
You’ll be supported closely throughout your internship, both within the HR Division and as part of our wider Internship Programme.
In your first week, you’ll spend dedicated time in the office with your Placement Manager getting to know NFU Mutual, the insurance industry and the regulatory landscape we operate in. You’ll complete corporate induction learning, receive systems training and agree clear placement objectives, including your end-of-programme presentation brief.
Throughout the 8 weeks, you’ll work alongside experienced professionals who regularly engage with senior leaders across the organisation. You’ll see first-hand how we influence, advise and challenge at all levels of the business.
Alongside your team experience, our Early Careers team will support your wider development. You’ll attend networking events with fellow interns, take part in a presentation skills session to help you prepare for your final showcase, and benefit from structured feedback conversations to help you reflect and grow.
We’ll trust you with real responsibility, but you won’t be left to figure things out alone. You’ll receive guidance, stretch opportunities and regular feedback, while also being encouraged to manage your time effectively and take ownership of your work.
By the end of the programme, you’ll deliver a final presentation on your project and leave with tangible experience, stronger commercial awareness and greater confidence in your own capability.
Application Process
Our application process is designed to be straightforward and focused on your potential. It includes an online assessment, a pre-recorded video interview and a virtual, skills-based interview with members of the team. We’re interested in how you think, communicate and approach problems rather than whether you’ve done this before.
If you successfully complete the internship, you may have the opportunity to be fast-tracked through future graduate programme selection processes, subject to availability and eligibility at the time.
Please note that you must have the right to work in the UK for the full duration of the internship, as we’re unable to provide visa sponsorship for this role.
This vacancy may close early depending on application volumes, so we’d encourage you to apply as soon as you feel ready.
About you
You’re curious, proactive, and excited to learn how HR uses data, technology and well‑run projects to make a real difference. You don’t need any prior HR or project experience, just enthusiasm, a growth mindset and the willingness to get involved.
You’ll be on track for at least a 2:2 degree, in any subject. While a degree subject with a people focus, such as Human Resources, Business Management, Psychology, Sociology, or other social sciences would be ideal, it’s not essential to be successful. What matters most is your interest in how people, systems and processes come together to create a great employee experience.
You’ll thrive here if you can bring:
Previous work experience is helpful, particularly if it’s helped you develop your communication or interpersonal skills, but it’s not essential. What matters is your potential and your willingness to get stuck in.
