Description
We are looking for an experienced Health, Safety & Environmental (HSE) Leader to help us deliver and drive an ambitious, accountable, and inclusive HSE culture at our Colchester manufacturing site.

This is a senior, influential role for a values‑led HSE professional who is passionate about protecting people, promoting sustainability, and challenging the status quo.

About The Role

As HSE Leader, you will be the site authority on Health, Safety and Environmental matters, working in close partnership with Operations, HR, Facilities and senior leaders.

You will set direction, lead by example, and create the conditions where everyone feels empowered to contribute to our shared goal of sending colleagues home safely while reducing our environmental impact.

This role plays a critical part in delivering innovative and energy‑efficient solutions whilst reducing our customers’ carbon footprint.

Key Responsibilities

  • Act as the site subject matter expert for Health, Safety & Environmental compliance and best practice
  • Lead investigations into accidents, incidents and near misses with integrity, ensuring robust root cause analysis and corrective actions
  • Own and maintain effective risk assessment and control processes across all activities
  • Ensure compliance with UK HSE legislation, ISO 14001, and ISO 45001
  • Lead site audits and maintain an always audit‑ready culture
  • Develop, track and report on key HSE KPIs, driving year‑on‑year improvement
  • Deliver HSE training, inductions and refresher programmes for employees, contractors and agency staff
  • Engage the workforce through toolbox talks, briefings and safety committee forums
  • Build strong external relationships with regulators, auditors and suppliers
  • Monitor legislative change and proactively advise on impacts and improvement opportunities
  • Lead environmental and sustainability initiatives, reducing risk and environmental interaction

What We’re Looking For

You will be a confident, solution‑focused HSE professional with strong manufacturing experience and the credibility to influence at all levels.

Essential

  • NEBOSH qualification (or equivalent)
  • Proven HSE experience within a manufacturing or industrial environment
  • Strong working knowledge of ISO 14001 and ISO 45001
  • Qualified Internal Auditor (Lead Auditor preferred)
  • Excellent communication, influencing and stakeholder engagement skills

Desirable

  • Experience delivering training and presenting to diverse audiences
  • Coaching or mentoring line managers and safety representatives

Why Join Us?

  • A highly visible HSE leadership role with real site‑wide impact
  • The opportunity to shape culture, performance and sustainability
  • A values‑driven organisation with a clear purpose and long‑term vision
  • Collaborative leadership teams and a strong commitment to safety

If you are passionate about health, safety and the environment — and want to make a meaningful difference in a manufacturing setting — we’d love to hear from you.
