Job description


Programme Leadership

  • Lead and drive a complex programme of activity with multiple partners and competing priorities.
  • Manage competing priorities while providing insight, direction and constructive challenge to achieve desired outcomes.

Workstream & Delivery Management

  • Coordinate and oversee multiple workstreams, working through others to deliver key milestones.
  • Manage interdependencies to ensure all programme activities remain aligned, efficient and on track.

Stakeholder Engagement

  • Build, manage and influence relationships with a range of internal and external stakeholders.
  • Communicate effectively, ensuring stakeholder needs and expectations are clearly understood and managed.

Programme Planning, Risk & Management

  • Use appropriate project methodologies to design and maintain cohesive project plans.
  • Operate confidently in ambiguity, identifying and monitoring risks and issues and applying mitigations, controls and escalation routes.

Programme Reporting & Governance

  • Ensure systems are in place to track programme progress and performance.
  • Design, record and maintain effective governance routes, preparing high‑quality documentation for senior leaders and boards.

Team Leadership & Development

  • Support, guide and coach a small team, promoting professional growth and effective performance.
  • Demonstrate commitment to personal development and contribute to a positive, high‑performing team culture.


Person specification


Qualifications/Accreditation: Candidates must hold, or be willing to work towards, a recognised PPM practitioner level qualification (e.g. PRINCE2, AgilePM, MSP or equivalent) to be considered for this opportunity.


Essential Criteria:


Leadership in Programme, Portfolio or Project Environments (Lead Criteria) - Demonstrable experience in a leadership role within a portfolio, programme or project environment in a large and diverse organisation, working with multiple and complex stakeholders.

Project Planning & Delivery - Experience defining, tracking and planning the core components of a project, including scope, deliverables and timescales, while incorporating risk to provide a clear and consolidated project overview.

Working With Multi‑Disciplinary Teams - Experience of working with multi‑disciplinary teams to deliver results within fixed timeframes and limited resource, ensuring effective coordination and delivery.

Stakeholder Engagement & Relationship Management - Proven ability to build effective and collaborative relationships with senior stakeholders, with the confidence and authority to hold others accountable for driving key deliverables.

Communication and Influence - Track record of strong personal impact, using both written and verbal communication skills to influence, challenge and collaborate across organisational boundaries and within sensitive political environments.

Governance - Experience working within agreed governance procedures, maintaining high levels of accuracy and attention to detail while operating in a fast‑paced environment.
