About the department

The Information Governance and Compliance Team is responsible for ensuring the organisation meets its legal and regulatory obligations in relation to data protection, as well as helping to ensure that the business follows good records management practice.

The team manages complex and high-volume data protection requests, queries and complaints as well as requests under the SRA's Transparency Code (Freedom of Information Act) and provides advise on records management.

The role

You will have an opportunity to be part of a supportive team that collaborate with stakeholders across the organisation.

In the role you will be responsible for dealing with information governance and compliance matters, mainly handling complex and high-volume requests under data protection legislation, data protection complaints and request for information under the SRA's Transparency Code (in line with Freedom of Information Act).

You will act as a key contact for data protection and information governance, and you will support your colleagues in handling complex disclosure matters and join projects where advice and support are required.

You will raise the profile of Information Governance and increase awareness of data protection across the organisation, ensuring colleagues understand their responsibilities by developing and delivering training and awareness sessions, creating policies, procedures and guidance.

You will assist the DPO's wider team in all aspects of information governance and compliance.

This is an exciting role that will suit an individual who has previous experience in working in a regulatory, legal, or compliance environment and possess knowledge of data protection legislation. Someone who has excellent attention to detail, good time and workload management skills, good communication skills and the ability to assess and prioritise competing demands on their time.

What we are looking for

  • Working experience of processing complex data subject requests and freedom of information requests.
  • Excellent knowledge of Information Governance and an understanding of relevant legislation (Data Protection Act 2018 (DPA), Data (Use and Access) Act EU and UK General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), Freedom of Information Act 2000 (FOIA)).
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent organisational skills and ability to meet deadlines.
  • Attention to detail and the ability to produce high quality written work
  • Ability to research and review, analyse and present legal information
  • Ability to work independently and on own initiative, seeking guidance when appropriate
  • Good level of IT skills knowledge and experience of using Microsoft O365 applications and tools.
