Accountabilities

  • Through proactive engagement with the recognised stakeholders at all levels, maintain a positive culture of employee relations across the MEH Programme and minimising industrial disputes as far as practicable
  • Take the lead, involving MEHJV partners, in addressing and resolving disputes and industrial action, official and unofficial, on behalf of MEH
  • Develop and ensure compliance with the MEH IR strategy and policies
  • Take the lead for MEH in external discussions on the implementation and spirit and intent of the Sector Agreements and Social Covenant
  • Represent MEH at Local Joint Council
  • Proactively Regional Officers, site Convenors and MEHA Shop Stewards of the recognised Trade Unions to facilitate the smooth introduction of changes to working patterns and arrangements
  • Engage the site IR team and local site convenors and shop stewards to identify and anticipate brewing issues and intervene to resolve and avoid escalation
  • Ensure MEH complies with all the relevant employment regulations
  • Liaise with the Client Employment Affairs Unit on a regular basis
  • Manage the provision of IR related info the Client team as required
  • Facilitate effective engagement and liaison with delivery partners, ensuring they are aware and involved in any issues affecting their workforce. Act as the point of escalation for unresolved grievances
  • Support the Client in making representations to government on matters relating to the MEH workforce e.g. the introduction of non UK workforce where required and manage stakeholders relations around these issues
  • Lead and foster a positive Nuclear Safety Culture.
  • Role model safety behaviours and act as an ambassador for MEH on site

  • Minimum Qualifications/ Experience:

    • Degree or equivalent
    • Relevant Professional Qualification – preferably CIPD Qualified
    • Minimum of 5 years Industrial Relations experience in a management role working in an industrial unionised environment.
    • Proven track record in large scale projects in the nuclear or similar regulated sector, including major EPC projects
    • Can achieve security clearance (BPSS or higher).

    Additional Qualifications/ Experience:

    • Proven track record of success in the nuclear or similar regulated sector, including working on major construction projects
    • Effective communicator, experienced in delivering and operating at a leadership Level
    • Strong leader, experienced with dealing with a breadth of IR issues, liaising with trade union officials at all levels with a positive, “can do” mentality and the ability to reach sensible compromise positions
    • Politically aware – understands the multi stakeholder context in which the role operates and manifests a collaborative approach
    • Good client/external body facing experience with excellent working knowledge of the relevant training and funding organisations Positive, can-do mentality
    • Strong leader with collaborative nature
    • Ability to reach sensible compromise position
    • Can demonstrate previous record of success in their discipline
