IRIS Business Systems Analyst - Insurance

Duration: 6 months (initial), with potential rolling extensions

Location: Occasional office visits to London (flexible)

Rate: £550-£650 a day (Outside IR35)

We are seeking a technically skilled Business Systems Analyst (BSA) with IRIS expertise to join a specialist team within a major international insurance organisation. This role combines hands-on coding and analysis, focused on delivering new product development and triaging live issues within a highly specialised AS/400 environment.

You'll work across the full delivery lifecycle, with approximately 70% technical/coding work and 30% analytical/problem-solving activity. The role requires strong SQL skills, an analytical mindset, and the ability to produce accurate, detail-oriented work while driving outcomes. You'll be part of a collaborative team of BSAs, contributing to innovative product launches and delivering against high-priority business goals.

Key Responsibilities

• Analyse business requirements and design technical solutions in IRIS and AS/400 systems.
• Undertake hands-on coding, development, and configuration tasks (RPG experience beneficial).
• Write and execute SQL queries to support analysis, problem resolution, and reporting.
• Apply data analytics techniques to support business and technical decision-making.
• Work closely with stakeholders to implement new product features and resolve technical issues.
• Collaborate with other BSAs and developers to ensure smooth delivery of projects.
• Support prioritisation and backlog management for new and existing initiatives.
• Contribute to accelerating new product rollouts while maintaining quality standards.

Skills & Experience

• Proven IRIS development experience (essential).
• Strong SQL skills (essential).
• Data analytics experience (desirable).
• RPG programming knowledge in an AS/400 environment (advantageous).
• Detail-oriented with a focus on delivering measurable outcomes.
• Proven problem-solving ability.
• Awareness of Agile ways of working.
• Excellent communication skills with a team-focused attitude.
