Description

Synechron is looking for an experienced KDB+ Developer to join the Agency Trading stream of a leading Investment Bank, supporting the Independent Risk Function with innovative, high-performance data solutions.


As a key player in the Risk team, you will design, develop, and optimise advanced data platforms built on kdb+. Your work will directly influence risk management processes, helping deliver robust, scalable, and efficient solutions for large-scale, high-frequency data environments.


Role:

  • Develop and maintain kdb+ tick systems and data architectures tailored for trading and risk analytics
  • Optimise real-time and historical data workflows for low latency and high throughput
  • Collaborate closely with Risk stakeholders to translate complex business requirements into effective technical solutions
  • Lead performance diagnostics, tuning, and troubleshooting of kdb+ systems
  • Drive best practices in coding, testing, and system design while mentoring junior team members
  • Contribute to Agile delivery cycles, participating in design, review, and production support


Experience:

  • 8+ years of hands-on experience in kdb+ development within a financial trading or risk environment
  • Strong expertise in q language, including schema design (splayed, partitioned, segmented), joins, and aggregations
  • Deep understanding of kdb+ tick architecture—ticker plant, RDB, HDB—and related patterns
  • Proven track record working with large datasets, performance tuning, and scalability
  • Skilled in Unix/Linux environments, scripting, and automation
  • Effective communicator, able to liaise with both technical teams and risk/business stakeholders

Preferred Skills:

  • Knowledge of inter-process communication and external system integrations
  • Experience with low-latency tuning and operational resilience in trading/risk systems
  • Familiarity with financial markets data and risk management workflows

  • Long term rolling contract inside IR35 - London x3 days a week - Mid to Senior level - Strong market rates
