The Medical Secretarial Service have a vacancy for Medical Secretary to join the Plastic Surgery Medical Secretarial Team at Aberdeen Royal Infirmary. This exciting opportunity would be ideal for an experienced secretary or administrator looking to expand on their existing knowledge or move in to the medical secretarial team.
The post
The post holder will work as part of the Medical Secretary Team in the Plastic Surgery Department at ARI to provide secretarial and administrative support to a large team of Consultant Surgeons and their medical and nursing staff.
This is a very busy but rewarding post in a fast based specialty with a high volume of patients. The post holder will be responsible for booking theatre lists, outpatient local anaesthetic lists, diary management, answering patient queries, and management of the awaiting results system alongside other administrative and PA tasks.
Hours of work are negotiable with the successful candidate between the hours of 8am and 5pm Monday to Friday. The post is full-time at 37 hours per week, reducing to 36 hours per week in April 2026 (with no loss of pay) in line with the NHS Scotland reduced working week.

What We Love To See
The ideal candidate should have previous Medical Secretary experience or experience in a similar role such as Legal Secretary, PA, or Team Secretary. You should have experience of scheduling of appointments/diary management, and excellent interpersonal and organisational skills. The ability to touch type with experience of transcription of documents from audio files is also essential. Knowledge of medical terminology and NHS experience in an administrative role would be advantageous, but not essential.

Additional Information For Candidates
As from 1/4/26, the Agenda for Change full-time working week will be reducing from 37 to 36 hours per week. Part time hours will be reduced pro-rata. However, there will be a corresponding increase in the hourly rate so that pay will not be affected.
