Melbourn, Cambridgeshire

Due to year-on-year success and business growth, Intertek Melbourn is recruiting for a motivated and enthusiastic Equipment Technician to work as part of the Equipment Team within our current Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) laboratories. The role will be to assist the Equipment Team in maintenance and qualification of laboratory equipment to support Operations.

ABOUT YOU

This is an ideal opportunity if you are looking to develop practical technical skills within a laboratory environment. You may be a school leaver, college leaver, or someone with a relevant vocational or applied science background, or equivalent experience, who is keen to learn and build a long-term career in a regulated scientific setting.

Required skills and experience:

  • Some relevant laboratory, technical, or hands-on practical experience (this may have been gained through education, placements, apprenticeships, or early career roles)
  • An interest in working with laboratory equipment and learning how it is maintained and qualified
  • A qualification in a science, engineering, or technical subject (e.g. A-levels, BTEC, NVQ, HNC/HND, or equivalent). A degree is not essential
  • A positive, proactive attitude with a genuine willingness to learn and develop new skills
  • Comfortable balancing practical tasks with routine administration and documentation
  • Good IT literacy skills
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to work effectively as part of a team and build working relationships with internal colleagues and external suppliers
  • Experience working in a GMP or regulated environment would be beneficial but is not essential, as training will be provided

  • ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY

The role will support the Equipment Team with the maintenance, qualification, and administration of laboratory equipment to ensure smooth day-to-day laboratory operations.

You will receive training and ongoing support, with the opportunity to develop technical knowledge across a wide range of laboratory equipment as your experience grows.

    Key activities:

    • Plan and organise day-to-day work in consultation with your supervisor
  • Carry out and/or support planned servicing, qualification, and calibration activities in line with equipment maintenance schedules
  • Assist with reactive equipment issues raised through the Equipment Helpdesk, helping to minimise equipment downtime
  • Carry out basic fault finding and equipment checks, with training provided
  • Review and check calibration and service certificates returned from suppliers to ensure accuracy and compliance
  • Complete equipment-related documentation accurately and in a timely manner for laboratory and quality review
  • Support the identification, relocation, and installation of new and existing laboratory equipment
  • Liaise with external suppliers to arrange off-site inspection, servicing, and maintenance
  • Review remote monitoring data for temperature-controlled equipment and environments, helping to identify trends and document temperature excursions
  • Respond to Helpdesk tickets promptly, maintaining clear communication with laboratory teams
  • All tasks will be performed in accordance with Intertek Melbourn procedures and GMP principles.
