Job Introduction

Position: Laboratory Technician, AMS

Location: Hoddesdon

About The Role

We’re looking for a proactive and detail‑oriented Laboratory Technician to join our new AMS Laboratory at our Hoddesdon site. In this role you provide broad-based support to the AMS team, enabling effective sample receipt, processing and analysis of clinical samples in a GCP laboratory.

This is an excellent opportunity for a graduate who enjoys practical lab work, problem‑solving, and supporting high‑quality scientific analysis.

Key Responsibilities

  • To understand (through hands-on laboratory training), the analytical techniques and procedures involved in AMS-enabled clinical studies.
  • Perform the roles and responsibilities of a Laboratory Technician, demonstrating competence in the use and maintenance of specific instrumentation, receipt and storage of samples, processing of clinical samples for analysis and other routine supporting activities.
  • Maintain the system for monitoring the inventory and stock levels of chemicals and consumables in the laboratory.
  • Check the performance of laboratory equipment at regular intervals to demonstrate suitability for use.
  • Maintaining the system for sending equipment and instruments for external calibration.
  • Oversee waste management in the laboratory.
  • Prepare buffers, reagents and general solutions to support analytical methods.
  • Participate in sample receipt, including sample log-in and log-out during the course of a study.
  • Coordinate shipping requests.
  • Communicate with Lab Services team on specific responsibilities outlined above.
  • Address findings arising from QA audits and process inspections


Candidate Profile

  • A Scientific degree preferably Chemistry based
  • Experience of working within a GxP laboratory setting and or experience of working in a laboratory that handles 14C is highly desirable
  • Ideally experience of sample processing and analytical techniques e.g. HPLC
  • Excellent planning and organization skills - Ability to multi-task, manage time and accept changing priorities
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to effectively present scientific findings to colleagues and clients
  • Good knowledge of Microsoft Office software
  • Ability to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team
