ALS Laboratories are looking for a Laboratory Technician to support their Microbiology department at ALS Ely. The successful candidate will be a proactive member of the team, able to work with initiative and being highly efficient, testing a wide range of samples from manufacturing samples through to medicines undergoing testing for release to market.
You will work closely with both other team members and senior staff to ensure that samples received are processed in a timely manner to meet operational and client requirements and necessary regulatory standards.
There is a clear progression pathway for the individual who has both the desire and ability to develop themselves.
Hours Per Week: 40
Days Per Week: Monday - Friday (08:30 - 17:00) + weekends on rotational basis
Contract: Full Time and Permanent
Annual Salary: £26867.36 + £1000 GMP allowance

The Day to Day
Conducting microbiological tests as per documented methodologies and procedures
Performing daily quality control checks and equipment calibrations
Ensuring timely analysis to meet customer and method expectations
Informing the shift supervisor of any issues or uncertainties in testing procedures
Maintaining a clean and tidy laboratory environment, including safe waste disposal
Ensuring accurate and legible completion of all required documentation
Monitoring laboratory stock levels and alerting the supervisor when replenishment is needed
Adhering strictly to all Health & Safety, COSHH, and PPE regulations
Reporting any incidents or near-misses to your line manager
You’ll be working alongside Team Leaders, Laboratory Analysts, Senior Technicians, Microbiologists and Section Heads, contributing to a supportive and safety-focused team culture.
The Essentials
5 GCSEs (Grade C/4 or above), including Science, Maths and English
A-Level or equivalent qualification in a scientific subject
A strong attention to detail and the ability to keep accurate records
The ability to follow instructions, prioritise tasks, and work effectively within a team
Good communication skills and basic IT literacy
A customer-focused approach and commitment to ongoing professional development (CPD)
You’ll also be expected to maintain quality standards in line with ISO 9001:2015 and ISO 17025:2017 to meet both company and industry expectations.
