The Electrical Systems team is responsible for delivering safe, resilient and technically robust electrical infrastructure across the Rolls‑Royce SMR power station. High‑voltage (HV) systems form the backbone of the plant’s electrical network, supporting conventional power distribution, grid connection, turbine interface and overall reliability of the station. This role ensures that our HV systems are designed, verified and integrated to the highest engineering, safety and regulatory standards.

About The Role

As a Lead Electrical Engineer – HV Systems, you will provide technical expertise across the full lifecycle of HV distribution systems, covering system architecture, sub‑system design, equipment specification and the selection of HV components to realise the final verified design of the power station.

You will work collaboratively with electrical, civil, systems engineering and safety teams to ensure HV systems are integrated effectively and meet national and international standards. You will act as a responsible designer and intelligent customer, ensuring technical rigour and quality across all design activities. The role also includes supporting capacity planning, risk identification, long‑term strategy development and representing the electrical discipline in internal and external forums.

You may provide leadership to small teams, support supply‑chain partners, and contribute to standardisation and commoditisation across electrical system designs.

We’ll Need You To

We know there’s no such thing as the ‘perfect’ candidate. If you meet around 75% of the criteria below, we’d love to hear from you:

• Experience across the electrical systems lifecycle within a regulated industry (nuclear desirable but not essential)
• Strong knowledge of HV distribution systems including specification, design, assessment, verification, testing, installation, commissioning and maintenance
• Understanding of UK and European HV electrical codes and standards
• Knowledge of systems engineering approaches including MBSE methodologies and tools such as Capella, DOORS or Polarion
• Demonstrated ability to lead engineering teams or work packages to time, cost and quality
• Experience acting as an intelligent customer and providing technical oversight of supplier deliverables
• Strong understanding of general electrical power distribution principles, system interfaces and plant integration
• Knowledge of turbine‑generator interfaces and grid infrastructure for the UK/EU market
• Experience developing protection philosophies and protection settings
• Strong communication skills with the ability to present information clearly to internal and external stakeholders

Degree in electrical engineering or a related discipline (or equivalent experience)

Salary And Package

The salary band for this role will be between £63,600–£83,500 dependent on the skills, values and knowledge you bring. There may be some flexibility with the starting salary in exceptional cases, and, in due course, the role may be developed further.
