Our Vision & Why It Matters

At Alexander Dennis, our vision is to lead the evolution of sustainable on-road mass transportation and mobility.

We design, deliver, and support market-leading buses and coaches that help reduce emissions, improve air quality, and keep communities connected. Every role contributes to that mission whether you're engineering, driving sales, improving production, or supporting our customers.

What You'll Do

As Lead Engineer for Software & Controls, you will design, develop and verify software and control architectures for both new and existing vehicle platforms. You'll lead the delivery of model‑based control systems, ensuring robust processes, controlled software management and best‑practice engineering throughout the full application lifecycle. You'll collaborate closely with internal teams, suppliers and customers to ensure technical requirements are met and high‑quality, safe, reliable solutions are delivered.

What We're Looking For

You'll bring a strong technical background in software and controls engineering, ideally with experience gained in automotive, commercial vehicles, heavy industries or similarly complex engineered systems. You will be comfortable developing model‑based software in Simulink/Stateflow, have knowledge of communication protocols such as CAN, LIN and IP, and experience managing software through structured development and quality processes. You'll also be an effective communicator, capable of supporting multiple concurrent projects and guiding others in best‑practice engineering methods.

Bonus if you have:

  • Experience using Vector, dSPACE, Polarion, Teamcenter or similar tools
  • Experience with HIL rigs (e.g., Speedgoat) and test automation
  • Familiarity with ISO 26262 or other functional safety standards
  • Experience with high‑voltage or powertrain control systems
  • Requirements management experience
