Job Summary

Lead Nurse - Enhanced Therapeutic Observations of Care (ETOC)

Your role will be to be the clinical lead and expert for Enhanced Therapeutic Observations of Care (ETOC) for the organisation. Your role will be key in ensuring that all enhanced care is provided therapeutically, to a high standard and in accordance with Trust policies and best practice.

The post holder will use excellent communication and risk assessment skills to support clinical teams to understand the needs of patients, to develop person-centred care plans and to monitor the effectiveness of interventions, to aid recovery and reduce length of stay. You will need to work closely with The Falls and Frailty team.

Main duties of the job

The post holder;


  • Deliver safe, high-quality care for patients requiring Enhanced Therapeutic Observations and Care (ETOC), ensuring all interventions support patient wellbeing and safety.
  • Undertake specialist clinical assessments, including risk assessments, and develop, implement, evaluate and document personalised care plans.
  • Lead on the training, education and skills development of ward and bank staff involved in enhanced care, with a focus on mental health, learning disabilities and the application of relevant legal frameworks such as the Mental Capacity Act (MCA) and Mental Health Act (MHA).
  • Coordinate and deploy Health Care Support Workers and Enhanced Care Support Officers effectively, ensuring staffing aligns with patient need, acuity and risk.
  • Act as an expert clinical resource for senior leaders and frontline teams, maintaining a visible and accessible presence to support high-quality care delivery

    Qualifications

    Education, Qualifications and Training Essential


    • Degree level education or equivalent experience
    • Registered Nurse/RMN
    • Evidence of Continuing professional development
    • Full driving license/access to transport


    Desirable


    • Management/leadership qualification
    • MSc in a relevant clinical area
    • Specialist training to master's level or equivalent experience
    • Evidence of post graduate study
    • Teaching qualification
    • Mentorship qualification
    • Previous experience of leading audit, research and project management


    Experience Essential


    • Ability to assess, plan, implement and evaluate care programmes for individual patients utilising specialist knowledge across a range of work procedures and practices underpinned by theoretical knowledge.
    • Broad range of clinical skills including complex and specialist Assessments
    • Ability to provide and communicate complex information to arrange of health, social care and third-party workers
  • Ability to provide and receive complex information to patients and carers using a wide range of highly developed communication skills
  • Able to work unsupervised in a range of settings, analysing and making decisions in relation to patient risk and care in complex cases
  • Ability to maintain accurate written records/reviewing and monitoring documentation
  • Ability to manage/prioritise a caseload, demonstrating skills in appropriate delegation of nursing care/work rotas
