Description
About Artificial

Help shape the future of specialty insurance

At Artificial, we’re building the next generation of technology for the specialty (re)insurance market. Our mission is to transform how brokers and carriers operate in complex markets by removing operational barriers and enabling smarter, faster decision-making.

We use modern technology to solve real challenges for some of the world’s leading brokers and insurers. By automating the repetitive and structuring the complex, we help our partners unlock new opportunities for innovation and growth.

You’ll be joining a collaborative team that values curiosity, ownership, and continuous learning. We work in an environment where ideas are heard, support is built-in, and outcomes matter. Everyone here has the chance to make a tangible impact on our products, our customers, and the industry.

We've just raised $45M (£33M) in Series B funding from lead investor CommerzVentures, new investor Move Capital, as well as all existing shareholders. This investment round gives us the room to grow with confidence, continue to innovate, and ensure that Artificial remains the first choice for brokers and carriers seeking a smarter way to trade digitally.

Join us, and take the chance to be a part of something that will change the landscape of insurance for generations.

Our values

Within the Engineering team, we strive to:

  • Build high-quality, robust features and supporting infrastructure that sets the standard for the rest of the engineering team
  • Asking good questions, sharing knowledge, mentoring and developing others in the team
  • To continuously improve operations (think: Kaizen, Toyota Way)
  • To spread skills across the team, discouraging knowledge silos
  • To have the confidence needed to be ambitious and do what others can’t

  • You’ll be working with talented people, using the latest technology in an environment that supports learning. As an outcomes-focused business, taking ownership is not only expected but embraced, meaning the opportunity to create meaningful change is within your power.

    About The Role

    • Design and deliver moderately complex standalone systems and major new features within existing platforms.
    • Own end-to-end delivery of large projects, from design through to production, with accountability for outcomes.
    • Write consistently high-quality, production-ready code and lead improvements to system health and maintainability.
    • Make informed decisions on libraries, abstractions, and tooling, clearly communicating trade-offs.
    • Develop and operate performant Haskell services, applying appropriate data structures and testing strategies.
  • Drive system reliability, observability, and incident response, working hands-on with infrastructure and operations.
  • Communicate complex technical and organisational topics clearly, creating alignment across teams and stakeholders.
  • Mentor and support engineers, improving team processes, wellbeing, and long-term organisational effectiveness.

  • About You

    • Experienced in designing and delivering complex systems or major features with end-to-end ownership.
    • Write high-quality, maintainable code and actively reduce technical debt to improve long-term system health.
    • Strong hands-on experience with performant Haskell and sound judgement around libraries and abstractions.
    • Confident applying a range of testing approaches to match the problem and risk profile.
    • Background in infrastructure, operations, or SRE-adjacent work, with a focus on reliable, observable systems.
    • Comfortable operating production systems using Docker, Nix, Terraform, and AWS.
    • A clear communicator who aligns teams around complex ideas and focuses on impact and efficiency.
    • Passionate about mentoring, giving constructive feedback, and supporting healthy team dynamics.

We especially want to hear from you if you have

    • Collaborative skills with an emphasis on product quality.
