CDIO Borders and Trade supports the HMRC Borders and Trade group delivering IT projects that enable HMRC’s wider customs strategy and policies. Job Description

As a G7 Lead Supplier Manager, you will lead and manage CDIO portfolio contracts, owning all aspects of performance, outcomes, risk, issues, continual improvement, budgets, and supplier relationships. You will ensure delivery aligns with Supplier Management standards and HMRC’s strategic direction.

You will provide strong operational contract leadership, assuring SoWs, overseeing contractual changes, and ensuring suppliers meet outcome-based requirements, KPIs, SLAs and wider obligations. Working closely with Commercial, Finance, Security, Programmes, and multiple suppliers, you will foster a collaborative and intelligent client culture. As an escalation point for complex risks and issues, you will lead your team to constructively challenge, resolve obstacles and support the wider Supplier Management community through change.

Person specification

You will lead and develop a team of Supplier Managers and Associate Supplier Managers, creating a growth focused culture where ideas and ways of working can be safely challenged. You will build capability across the team, ensuring strong contract literacy, commercial awareness, and a clear understanding of the end to end contract management lifecycle, including mobilisation, resourcing, and change management.

You will establish strong relationships with fellow G7s, G6 leadership, AROs, SROs, SSRM, FBPs, Commercial, Finance and suppliers, role modelling Civil Service leadership behaviours with internal and external stakeholders to help create a supportive and high performing environment.

You will coach and develop your team to ensure they have the skills and training they need to succeed, and you will act as deputy for your G6 when required, supporting both operational continuity and your own professional development.

Essential Criteria

• Extensive Leadership and management experience including day-to-day people management and leadership of staff including developing directly managed staff and wider resources to influence and provide results.
• Considerable professional working experience of building and maintaining positive relationships with the business and suppliers.
• Strong contract literacy and understanding of the full contract management lifecycle, including SoWs, KPIs/SLAs, milestones, service credits, and performance levers.
• Deep knowledge and subject matter expertise in supplier management, including performance management, contract assurance, and outcome‑based delivery.
• You must have a solution focused approach with a passion for continuous improvement.

Hybrid working at HMRC
