The Vacancy

Support young adults to take their first steps into independent living.

Where you’ll be working

Highfield Street is a long‑term supported living service for 18–25‑year‑olds with learning disabilities and/or mental health needs. Our focus is on developing essential life skills, increasing independence, and supporting each person to manage their tenancy and thrive within the community.

What You’ll Be Doing

As a Support Worker, you’ll provide person‑centred, 1:1 support that helps each young adult live as independently as possible. Your role will include:

  • Supporting individuals with learning disabilities and/or mental health needs
  • Helping build daily living skills such as budgeting, cooking, self‑care and tenancy management
  • Encouraging confidence, resilience and positive decision‑making
  • Writing, reviewing and following detailed risk assessments
  • Building strong, trusting relationships with families and professionals
  • Supporting safe community involvement and activities
  • Maintaining accurate digital records and following procedures and legislation
  • Encouraging motivation and positive change through empathy and creativity

What You’ll Have…

We’re not looking for a long list of qualifications. What matters most is who you are and how you support others. You’ll have:

  • A compassionate nature and the ability to engage positively with young adults
  • A calm, patient approach that promotes independence
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to build supportive relationships
  • A proactive, organised and flexible working style
  • Resilience and a forward‑thinking attitude when faced with challenges
  • Confidence using digital systems for record keeping
  • An understanding of safeguarding and the needs of vulnerable young adults

  • Full training is provided, so if you’re caring, motivated and open to learning, we’d love to hear from you.

    Please note: Highfield Street is not easily accessible by public transport. Access to a car or reliable transport is strongly recommended.

    Working hours

    Highfield is a 24/7 service, offering a variety of shifts across the week:

    • 7am – 3pm
    • 10am – 5pm
    • 1pm – 8:30pm
    • 2pm – 10pm
    • 10pm – 7am (waking nights)

    Weekend availability is essential.
