Legal Counsel between NQ-2PQE (London- Hybrid)
Spire Healthcare, a successful FTSE 250 private hospitals group, is looking for a Lawyer with aspirations to develop their existing skillset and to join its award winning in-house Legal Team. Based at Spire’s Head Office in London, the business offers a hybrid arrangement with a balance of at home and in office work. The working environment is busy and demanding with a supportive team culture.
The ideal candidate will be able to demonstrate that you have had experience in a workforce and general advisory context.
The role will be a unique opportunity to work with the Senior Legal Counsel undertaking a broad range of advisory work, with specific focus on general employment/ workforce related issues, but also general healthcare advisory work.
We are looking for someone who is keen to work with other senior legal counsel across the in-house team, is willing to grow their expertise and practice. We would ideally want someone who will be able to progress with tasks independently and seek guidance where necessary.
You would be required to work closely with other key stakeholders across the business including out Hospital colleagues, our Clinical and HR colleagues.
Strong inter-personal skills are a must as you will have daily contact with a variety of colleagues across the hospital group, including the senior management team. Some in-house and/or healthcare experience is preferred but not essential.
Duties To Include
- Ensuring the provision of timely and effective advice and assistance to the Group. This will include specifically providing advice to the Clinical and People functions, whilst assisting the Senior Legal Counsel, the Deputy General Counsel and General Counsel in providing the same to executive management team and the Board.
- Undertaking legal research and presenting this to supervisors with practical advice to address the issue giving rise to the research.
- Supporting with file and document management, including contributing to the implementation of technology-based tools/solutions which support the efficiency of the legal team.
- Careful, comprehensive attention to detail when reviewing documents, first hand accounts, policies and other evidence, with demonstrated critical analysis of such information.
- Proactive management of matters, with active steps taken to progress issues/resolve queries, with support from supervisors.
Working With Supervisors To
- Review and help draft responses to Court/ Tribunal and Regulators, and assessing such responses based on an analysis of evidence.
- Provide advice in respect of Spire’s workforce policies/ processes.
- Provide advisory assistance and support working closely with legal/HR colleagues. Help support and calibrate external legal advice across the business.
- ontribute to training to Hospital Directors, Directors of Clinical Services and other senior staff including those within the HR function.
- Produce and keep up to date the corporate policies for which the legal team have responsibility.
Ideal candidate
Our ideal candidate will be:-
- Able to demonstrate some experience in general employment/ workforce related issues, and ideally some experience in professional regulatory / advisory work in healthcare.
- Eager to take on a diverse role and someone who values a growth opportunity.
- Proactive, self-motivated and reliable, with a ‘can do’ attitude and ability to take initiative.
- Strong academic background (a 2:1 degree or equivalent).
- Someone who is approachable, commercial, can consider both the employee and employer perspectives, and is used to working at pace (and /or triaging matters for external support).
- First rate drafting skills.
- Excellent communication skills, both orally and in writing.
- Strong organization skills and with the ability to prioritise workloads effectively.
- A friendly and personable approach with colleagues and a willingness to take on new challenges.
