Purpose of role
As the Legal Counsel- Investments you will support the Investment & Trading Legal Team in achieving the Group’s strategic objectives from a Legal perspective, with specific emphasis on supporting the Investment and Treasury teams (Capital Management and Finance) with specialist legal support, collaborating with key senior leaders and managers across the businesses and group functions, as well as solicitors across the wider Legal team.

Key Responsibilities
- To provide autonomous high calibre technical legal support and expertise to the Investment and Treasury Teams (Capital Management and Finance) within the Just Group, specifically supporting investment and trading legal requirements, with varying degrees of complexity. This includes but is not limited to legal advice, drafting, negotiating, influencing and support in relation to complex transactional and trading arrangements, business requests, management of third party relationships with investment banks and asset managers and contracts, as well as oversight of external counsel on complex transactions.
- To assist with the management and timely delivery of project related activity involving investment legal and treasury/trading requirements, as appropriate from time to time.
- To input into regulatory work and periodic strategic change projects that impact the Investment and Treasury teams.
- To provide day to day support to the front office, trading and portfolio management functions within the Group’s Investment and Treasury teams.
- To assist with the early identification and management of legal risk in accordance with the Group’s risk appetites and tolerances.
- Qualified Solicitor or Barrister is essential
- Experience in a finance or capital markets team within a law firm is desirable
- In-house experience is preferable but not a requirement.
- Knowledge of drafting, negotiating, influencing and support in relation to private placements, commercial real estate, sale and buybacks, infrastructure development finance, and loan on note facility agreement structures.
- Knowledge of derivatives documentation and advising on legal structures to implement different hedging strategies
- Knowledge of investment legal and treasury/trading requirements, from the structuring and term sheet stage to reviewing legal opinions and signing and closing mechanics on the investment side and assisting with back-book optimisation trades and structures on the treasury/trading side
