This is a newly created fixed term locum post to join the Emergency Medicine team at Bedford Hospital. This post is to improve resilience of the consultant rota, to enable more sustainable cover of the Emergency Department (ED) 16 hours per day, 7 days a week with out of hours non-resident cover.
The post holder will join the current Emergency Medicine consultant team and wider ED multidisciplinary team to deliver urgent and emergency care to the local population. You must be dedicated to providing high quality emergency care, maintaining clinical standards, and continually looking to drive positive change by developing the service.
The Bedford ED is proud to be the top performing hospital in the East of England region for ambulance handovers, and has seen a significant improvement in 4 and 12 hour performance in the past 12-18 months as a result of the hard work and commitment of the team and a number of improvements delivered as part of the urgent and emergency care recovery board.
This is a fixed term position for 12 months.
The successful applicant will work closely with the existing Consultants in providing the full range of services, including diagnosis, investigations and treatment of patients. The consultant will have a continuing responsibility for the care of patients in their charge, ensuring safe handover as appropriate. They will provide a prompt opinion on request from consultant colleagues in other specialties and assume direct clinical role within the Department with other senior medical staff. There is also opportunity to participate in the call before you convey (CBYC) rota as part of the job plan.
