Description
The appointment is for a Locum Consultant in Colorectal Surgery within our friendly and well-established GI Surgical Clinical Management Group at UHL. There will be opportunity to work with colleagues in the development of new and effective patient care pathways in a department which strives to provide excellent services.

This post is designed to support the existing provision of lower gastrointestinal surgery.

Key aspects of the role will include emergency general surgery and support for the general on-call rota. There will be a requirement for the post holder to be involved in emergency care.

You will have the opportunity to discuss personal aspirations and any on-going training requirements which we would look to support and facilitate as part of your continuing professional development whilst in the role

The post-holder will support the delivery of high-quality patient care through clinical excellence, supervision, and continuous improvement.

Core Responsibilities

  • Diagnose, treat, and manage patient care, ensuring effective departmental function.
  • Support colleagues by covering planned absences.
  • Contribute to service development with consultants, CMG, GPs, and commissioners.
  • Supervise and support junior staff, adhering to Trust HR policies.
  • Participate in teaching, training, and assessment of medical staff at all levels.
  • Engage in clinical governance, audits, CPD, and attend mandatory meetings.
  • Fulfil managerial and financial duties where required.
  • Maintain high standards in line with GMC guidance and Trust protocols.
  • Respond to Trust requests, including incident or complaint investigations.
  • Undertake required induction, appraisal, statutory training, and revalidation

  • Our new strategy, developed with the support and feedback of colleagues, patients, and partners, is our compass for the next seven years (2023-2030).

    We Have Four Primary Goals

    • high-quality care for all,
    • being a great place to work,
    • partnerships for impact, and
    • research and education excellence

And we will embed health equality in all we do - taking active steps to reduce the avoidable differences in healthcare that some people face, working in partnership with communities.

Our strategy is underpinned by new values and we will work to ensure they are an everyday reality for all:

    • we are compassionate,
  • we are proud,
  • we are inclusive, and
  • we are one team

  • This is an exciting moment as we look to the future with clarity on what we already do well and where we need to focus our energies to make an even bigger difference for the people we serve.
