Macmillan Haematology Clinical Nurse Specialist

Job Overview

We are seeking to continue modernising our services therefore the post holder will require vision, innovation and the ability to work across professional boundaries underpinned by a real desire to provide the highest standards of patient care. You will be an experienced nurse, strong team player and patient advocate with extensive knowledge and skill in the field of haematology. You will either possess qualifications in physical examination and non-medical prescribing enabling you to undertake nurse-led assessment clinics or willing to undertake these at pace to support the service.

Main duties of the job

The Macmillan Haematology Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) will work in collaboration with the Haematology Multidisciplinary Team, providing expert clinical expertise, assessment of care and health needs of patients, with haematology malignancies, and their families.

He/she will have significant expertise within haematology with a particular interest in Myeloma sub speciality where he / she will utilise advanced practice skills. However he / she will have the ability to provide robust cross cover for haematology CNS colleagues in times of annual lea

ve or other absences.

He/ she will practice autonomously, working independently within the scope of their clinical practice. Have the ability to manage complex clinical situations, providing guidance, supervision and or training appropriate to peers and junior members of staff.

He/she will be actively involved in monitoring and developing haematology services across the trust to ensure patients receive sustainable high quality care that is safe and effective.

Work collaboratively with line manager / cancer lead nurse and other clinical nurse specialists to support the development of the nursing strategy both within oncology / haematology and the wider trust.

Person specification

Qualifications & Training

Essential criteria

• Recognised teaching qualification e.g. ENB 998 or equivalent
• Advanced Communications Skills Training level 2 or prepared to work towards
  
  

Desirable criteria

• Clinical examination skills in practice (level 3 or above)

Research qualification

Knowledge & Experience

Essential criteria

• Relevant post registration experience, at Band 6 or above in field of Haematology / Cancer
• Experience of teaching one to one and groups.
  
  

Desirable criteria

• In-depth haematology experience.
• Experience of audit and research
