The Team

Our Components & Mechanical Equipment team sits at the heart of our engineering mission. This group defines and delivers the pump technologies that enable safe, efficient SMR operation. Working with specialists across design, verification, manufacturing, and supply chain, the team is instrumental in scaling our technology for global deployment.

Role Summary

As Manager – Pumps, you’ll take a leading role in shaping a critical part of our SMR design. This is an opportunity to influence strategy, guide technical direction, grow a high‑performing team, and help create the energy infrastructure of the future. Your insight and leadership will drive product definition, programme performance, and supplier integration across an international landscape.

Key Responsibilities

In this role, you will:

  • Lead the technical vision for pump solutions and integrate them across the SMR programme.
  • Build and develop a talented team, creating a culture of learning, innovation, and accountability.
  • Shape and deliver cross‑functional product development programmes.
  • Drive cost, schedule, and product maturity performance.
  • Partner with suppliers, regulators, senior leaders, and customers to deliver robust solutions.
  • Advance our Intelligent Customer capability to support long‑term industry leadership.

    Your work will help bring a first‑of‑its‑kind power‑station design to life. You will influence technology, strategy, and the development of future leaders — making your contribution felt not only within RR SMR, but across the global nuclear‑energy landscape.

    Essential Qualifications

    We’re looking for someone who brings:

    • Strong leadership experience in engineering environments.
    • Programme management capability in complex hardware or regulated sectors.
    • Deep pumps knowledge across full lifecycle stages.
    • The ability to communicate, influence, and build trust across diverse stakeholders.
    • A relevant engineering qualification (degree, or equivalent experience).
  • Experience operating in cross‑functional environments at pace.

  • Pay And Benefits

    We anticipate paying a salary of between £57,600- £74,500 (DOE) plus:-

    • Bonus - Performance related bonus of up to 12.5%
    • Benefits Allowance - £2200, enabling you to create a bespoke package
    • Pension - 12% employer and 6% employee contributions.
    • Holidays - 28 days holiday (+ public holidays) and the ability to buy or sell up to 4 days

    • Life Assurance - 6x pensionable pay
    • £250 - One-off payment for new starters for home office purchases

    Location

    We offer flexible and hybrid working across Derby, Warrington, Manchester, or remote arrangements. Office attendance expectations will be discussed during the process.
