The role

As a Mechanical Fitter, you’ll play a vital part in maintaining the mechanical integrity of key estates equipment that underpins operations essential to national defence. This is a role where your engineering skill keeps people safe, ensures operational readiness, and supports the smooth running of one of the most unique and important sites in the UK.

You’ll join a team that thrives on technical challenge, teamwork, and pride in delivering work that truly matters. With access to complex systems, varied tasks and long-term development, this is a role that will grow your career while contributing to a mission of national significance.

Day-to-day, you’ll have the following responsibilities:

  • Completing planned preventative maintenance to support operational objectives.
  • Identifying, diagnosing and resolving mechanical and system defects.
  • Ensuring all work follows current processes and contributing suggestions to improve productivity.
  • Working within all Health & Safety legislation, Safe Systems of Work and Babcock policies.
  • Providing support and technical guidance to other trades where required.


  • This is a full‑time, on‑site role (36 hours per week) based at Coulport.

    Essential experience of the Mechanical Fitter - Estates:

    • Mechanical systems and equipment maintenance.
    • Pressure systems and equipment knowledge.
    • Boiler repair and maintenance experience.
    • Ability to interpret engineering drawings.
    • Competent in maintenance documentation, risk assessments and COSHH.


    Qualifications for the Mechanical Fitter - Estates:

    • Mechanical Fitter SVQ Level 3 or equivalent

    The successful candidate must be a sole UK National who is able to achieve and maintain Security Check (SC) security clearance for this role.
