Full Time / Part Time | Worthing (Swandean)

£38,682 – £46,580 per annum (pro rata)

Closing date: 20 May 2026

A fast-paced, high-impact role supporting people in mental health crisis — where your clinical judgement and communication skills make an immediate difference.

Why this role stands out

• Front-line role within a 24/7 mental health crisis line (NHS 111 option)

• Use your clinical skills in a different way – fast, focused, decision-led

• Develop expertise in triage, risk formulation and crisis response

• Support and guide Call Operators on complex calls

• £2,000 Golden Hello / Relocation Incentive + unsocial hours enhancements

The role

You’ll be part of a dedicated clinical team responding to Sussex-wide callers experiencing mental health crisis or urgent need.

This is not a counselling role — it’s about clinical decision-making, risk assessment and guiding people to the right support quickly and safely.

Key responsibilities include:

• Undertaking triage and risk assessments over the phone

• Supporting callers to understand their situation and next steps

• Making decisions on urgent care pathways and escalation

• Providing guidance and support to Call Operators on complex calls

• Acting as a clinical escalation point within the service

• Working collaboratively with urgent care services across Sussex

Every call is different — you’ll need to think on your feet, stay calm under pressure and make sound clinical judgements.

The team & setting

You’ll join a supportive, experienced team based at Swandean in Worthing.

The service operates 24/7, with shift patterns including:

Early (07:00–15:00) | Late (13:00–21:00 / 16:00–00:00) | Night (20:45–07:15)

What we offer

• £2,000 Golden Hello / Relocation Incentive

• Unsocial hours pay enhancements

• Flexible working (full time / part time)

• Training in triage, risk assessment and crisis response

• NHS pension and generous annual leave

• Supportive team environment and wellbeing support

About you

You’ll be a confident clinician, comfortable working in a fast-paced environment where decisions matter.

You will:

• Be a registered RMN, Occupational Therapist or Social Worker

• Have experience in risk assessment and clinical decision-making

• Be able to work autonomously and under pressure

• Communicate clearly and compassionately over the phone

• Be able to work a shift-based rota (including evenings, weekends and nights)

Experience in urgent care, crisis or liaison services would be helpful, but not essential.
