The Role

As a Microbiology Laboratory Technician, you will support the day-to-day laboratory operation, helping to ensure samples are processed efficiently, accurately, and in line with quality and health & safety requirements. You will work closely with colleagues to meet testing deadlines and departmental targets.

Hours: 40 hours per week

Contract: Full time, Permanent

Shift: Tuesday - Friday 12:45-21:45, Saturday 11:30-20:30

Salary: £25 834

Key Responsibilities

Carry out allocated testing exactly in line with documented methods/procedures, maintaining high quality standards.

Complete daily QC checks and equipment calibrations.

Deliver testing within required turnaround times, ensuring results meet method and customer expectations.

Escalate issues/uncertainties impacting testing to the Shift Supervisor promptly.

Maintain accurate, clear records (paperwork and systems) in line with requirements.

Monitor consumables/stock and flag replenishment needs.

Keep lab areas clean, organised and audit-ready; remove and dispose of waste correctly.

Follow all Quality and Health & Safety requirements, including COSHH, PPE and safe manual handling.

Report incidents and near misses to the line manager without delay.

The Essentials

A Level (or equivalent) in a science subject or relevant laboratory experience.

Strong attention to detail and commitment to cleanliness and safety.

Confident IT skills, including use of LIMS for data/recording.

Able to prioritise and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment; reliable and punctual.

Clear communication skills and ability to work well in a team.

Basic understanding of quality systems (e.g., ISO 9001 / ISO 17025) and COSHH.
