Description
At SLR Consulting, we are looking for a Mining Engineer to join our rapidly expanding Mining Advisory team. Our team provides consulting services to the mining industry at every stage of project development, operation and closure, from initial exploration through to rehabilitation. This role is remote, with flexible working arrangements, and offers the opportunity to contribute to projects for clients across multiple regions and commodities. However, you could also be based at one of our offices: http://www.slrconsulting.com/en/about-us/our-locations

With your knowledge and expertise, you will advise major mining companies, mid-caps, junior mining and exploration companies, as well as financial institutions, governments, law firms, and individual investors, on the technical, financial, and commercial aspects of mining. You will work as part of the Mine Engineering team within Mining Advisory, collaborating closely with geologists, geotechnical engineers, fellow mining engineers, and mineral processing engineers across the wider business.

The role

Responsibilities

As a Mining Engineer, you will contribute to a mix of due diligence, feasibility, and operational mining projects, combining technical delivery with project management and client-facing support. The role will suit someone who is comfortable working across multiple assignments, enjoys solving practical mining problems, and wants to develop further within a global consulting environment. Your main duties and responsibilities will include:

  • Assessment, due diligence, and technical auditing of mines and mining projects.
  • Inputs into feasibility assessments, including scoping studies, PEA, PFS, and DFS level work.
  • Mine planning, optimisation, design, and scheduling across a range of commodities and mining methods.
  • Use of 3D mine design and scheduling software to support technical studies and client deliverables.
  • Estimation of project capital and operating costs, with supporting financial analysis appropriate to the role level.
  • Contribution to Mineral Reserve estimation and supporting technical documentation where required.
  • Preparation of high-quality technical reports, presentations, and client-ready outputs.
  • Management of technical assignments, including coordination of deliverables, objectives, budgets, and cost control.
  • Support to proposals, bid coordination, and broader business development activities to help grow the team’s work pipeline.
  • Participation in client meetings and multidisciplinary project teams; some travel will be required, including occasional short-notice travel and site visits.

  • You will be fully integrated into a collaborative one-team culture and will work closely with colleagues across mining disciplines and regions.

    About You

You will have relevant experience in the mining sector, ideally gained through consulting, technical services, or mine operations. You should be technically strong, commercially aware, and capable of communicating clearly with both colleagues and clients. Your qualifications and background should include:

    • University degree, or equivalent, in Mining Engineering or a closely related discipline.
  • Membership of a relevant professional organisation, and registration as, or progress towards becoming, a recognised professional engineer or equivalent.
  • Operational knowledge and industry experience in open pit and/or underground mining.
  • Experience in mine planning, optimisation, design, and scheduling across one or more software suites.
  • Familiarity with international and public disclosure/reporting codes such as NI 43-101, JORC, SAMREC, and Competent Persons Reports.
  • Understanding of project economics, including financial modelling and analysis at a level appropriate to consulting assignments.
  • Exposure to project management, including successful delivery against objectives, timelines, and budgets.
  • Excellent analytical and communication skills, with the ability to write concise reports and interact confidently with clients.

  • The ideal candidate will be self-motivated, organised, and keen to excel in a role that combines technical quality, client service, and contribution to business growth.
