The Diocese of York is committed to becoming a Net Zero Carbon Diocese by 2030 (NZC2030)—a bold and essential part of our
Living Christ’s Story transformation strategy. We are now seeking a Net Zero Carbon Programme Lead to drive this vision forward.
This is a unique opportunity to lead a high-impact programme that spans across our 442 parishes, nearly 600 churches, and partner organisations including the York Diocesan Board of Education and York Minster. You will play a pivotal role in shaping and delivering the action plan that will help us meet our NZC2030 commitment.
About The Role
You will provide operational leadership for the implementation of our NZC2030 strategy, ensuring effective governance, coordination, and delivery across the Diocese. This includes managing the programme plan, securing funding, tracking progress, and engaging with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the delivery and ongoing development of the NZC2030 programme plan.
- Coordinate across departments, parishes, and partner organisations to ensure alignment and progress.
- Identify and apply for funding opportunities to support implementation.
- Provide regular reporting to governance bodies and senior leadership.
- Represent the Diocese in national and regional Net Zero Carbon forums.
About You
We are looking for a strategic and creative thinker with a strong track record of programme delivery in complex organisations. You will be in sympathy with the aims of the Church of England and bring a collaborative, solutions-focused approach to your work.
You Will Also Have
- Proven experience in programme or project leadership.
- Strong stakeholder engagement and communication skills.
- A passion for environmental sustainability and climate action.
- The ability to manage budgets, risks, and interdependent workstreams.
