Role description:

We have an exciting opportunity for an Associate Technical Director level Nuclear Safety Consultant to join our team to deliver nuclear safety case documents and Peer Review using industry Best Practise from a number of different sites. You will be responsible for leading the production of nuclear safety cases in accordance with client requirements and cultivate insights and solutions and innovate our service offering with clients and within Arcadis. You will work in both a team of Arcadis safety assessors and within an integrated client team. Our clients are typically nuclear site licensees alongside fusion energy organisations. You will positively lead and engage with the SHE agenda and embrace diversity, inclusion, and well-being in the working environment. Role accountabilities:

  • Lead the efficient delivery of projects ensuring client satisfaction, effective project management and good communication and collaboration between Arcadis colleagues
  • Engage with the client and all key stakeholders to develop a shared understanding of project objectives and to establish protocols for working together
  • Select, lead and develop the project team, to ensure they have the necessary skills to deliver the project, they understand and are engaged with the project strategy, brief and client requirements, and to manage their delivery of project objectives
  • Develop and propose potential solutions, including solutions that fall outside the standard codes where appropriate, to meet or exceed client expectations. Guide clients through the technical decision-making process and provide alternative solutions if there are changes to project parameters
  • Develop strong, partnering relationships with senior client personnel in order to identify and resolve issues, to identify business opportunities and to influence their decision making
  • Build strong working relationships with other teams and technical disciplines, Arcadis offices and external organisations to foster cooperation and to identify cross-sell and trade-up opportunities
  • Lead the preparation of specialist elements of bids, to support the production of high quality winning bids
  • Coach and mentor specialist professionals to support the development of Arcadis talent pool
  • Keep up to date with developments in the industry sector and with technical and legislative developments and seek out opportunities to develop a strong professional profile at an Area level (e.g. conference presentations, publications and participation in technical committees)
  • Lead exceptional client outcomes through service excellence across multiple, complex capability areas in challenging and risky environments
  • To cultivate insights and solutions, and innovate our service offering with clients and within Arcadis
  • Manage the performance of team members and subcontractors, identifying and ensuring the resolution of any issues
  • Manage the production of, and quality assure project deliverables to ensure that these meet or exceed client expectations and Arcadis requirements and comply

  • Qualifications & Experience:

    • Bachelor’s degree or higher in a science or engineering discipline
    • Chartered member of an appropriate professional institution/society
    • Strong appropriate values and behaviours including integrity, client success, persuasive skills, and the ability to build rapport
  • Breadth and depth of experience working on nuclear safety cases for Site Licence Companies, including new build, existing operational facilities and those in waste management & decommissioning.
  • Experience in delivering nuclear safety assessments for a number of project design stages from Feasibility to Post Operational Clean Out and Decommissioning.
  • Good understanding of, and experience of applying:
    • Hazard Identification
    • Radiological Consequence Assessment of Radiological Accidents
    • Safety-designation and safety case implementation
    • Use of bounding cases
    • Experience of applying accepted methodologies in such areas as REPPIR, External Hazards, Chemotoxic Assessments, Security Related Assessment and Internal Hazards.
    • Nuclear safety hierarchy, the ALARP principle and optimisation
    • The ONR Safety Assessment Principles
  • You should be eligible to complete Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS) working at OFFICIAL level.
