Description
About Beams

Beams is a technology-enabled home renovation marketplace based in East London. We connect homeowners with vetted builders and provide the structure that the renovation industry currently lacks: clear pricing, proper contracts, managed payments, and ongoing support throughout the build.

We don’t manage projects day to day, builders do. What we provide is the framework around them: the tools, accountability, and clarity that help projects run well. Think of us as the operating system for renovation.

We’re around 30 people. We launched in 2022 and recently achieved B Corp certification. As the business grows, the systems that sit behind our projects become increasingly important. That’s where operations comes in.

About The Role

As an Operations Associate, you'll sit at the centre of our delivery engine. You'll work across builder onboarding, project operations, workflow management, and the dozens of moving parts that sit between a signed contract and a finished renovation. Your job is to make the machine run better, every day.

This is a role for someone who likes getting into the details, spotting what's broken, and sorting it out properly. You won't just flag issues, you'll find root causes and build solutions that stick. That means analysing data, redesigning processes, and working closely with builders and internal teams to make sure changes actually land.

You'll be joining a small team at a company that's growing fast but intentionally. Some things are well built. Others are still being figured out.

This role sits close to the centre of the business. If you enjoy understanding complex systems and making them work better, you’ll have a lot of impact here.

What You'll Be Doing

A typical week looks something like this:

  • Monitoring project performance. You’ll look at operational data across our live projects to spot early warning signs: delays, coordination issues, or patterns that suggest something isn’t working.
  • Redesigning and rolling out processes. You'll take messy, inconsistent workflows and turn them into something scalable. That means not just designing a better process on paper, but actually implementing it — getting buy-in, training people, and making sure it sticks.
  • Onboarding builders into the Beams network. You'll manage the process of bringing new builders on board, from initial vetting through to making sure they understand how Beams works. You'll develop strong working relationships with them and be a key point of contact.
  • Supporting builders through live projects. You'll help builders follow Beams processes and standards, while feeding back what isn't working and why. When something goes wrong on a project, you'll work out whether it's a people problem, a process problem, or a system problem and respond accordingly.
  • Working across teams to get things done. Operations touches everything. You'll coordinate closely with product, sales, design, and build teams to make sure the right information is flowing and the right decisions are being made.
  • Driving root-cause analysis. When things break, you won't settle for a surface fix. You'll dig into why it happened, what systemic issue allowed it, and what needs to change so it doesn't happen again.

  • What We’re Looking For

    • Strong analytical judgement. You're confident gathering and interpreting data. You're curious by default. You pull at threads and enjoy learning how things really work. You can turn a spreadsheet into an insight and an insight into an action.
    • Systems thinking. You naturally look for root causes rather than surface fixes. When something breaks, you want to understand the system around it.
    • Clear communication. You can explain operational problems simply. You’re comfortable working with different perspectives: builders, homeowners, and colleagues across the company.
    • A bias to action. You don’t wait for perfect instructions. If something needs doing, you start making progress and bring in help where needed.
  • Optimism and resilience. Operations can be messy. Projects change, information is incomplete, and priorities move. You stay calm and keep things moving forward.

  • Most people in this role have 2–5 years of experience in operations, consulting, project management, or a junior chief-of-staff style position.

Experience improving processes in a fast-moving environment is helpful. So is experience working across teams and with external partners. We particularly welcome applications from people who've worked in trades, property, or operational roles outside of corporate settings.

Renovation, construction, or marketplace experience is useful but not required.

    What Success Looks Like

    At 30 days:

You've completed onboarding and understand how Beams works end to end — from sales through to project delivery. You've shadowed key processes, met the builders you'll be working with, and started identifying the first areas where things could run better. You're comfortable navigating our tools and systems.

    At 90 Days

You're independently managing builder onboarding and contributing to live project operations. You've redesigned at least one process and rolled it out. You're building trusted relationships with builders in the network. Teams across Beams are coming to you when they need something operational sorted.

    At 12 Months

You're a critical part of how Beams operates. The processes you've built are running smoothly and scaling with the business. You've developed deep expertise in our builder network and project operations. Leadership sees you as someone who makes the whole company work better — and who could grow into a more senior operations role as the team expands.

    Package

    • Share options: Included in every offer
    • Annual leave: 25 days + bank holidays
    • Learning budget: Annual allowance for professional development
    • Hybrid working: 3 days in our East London office, 2 from home
    • Pension: Workplace pension scheme

    Diversity and inclusion

We're building a team that reflects the range of people we serve. Different backgrounds, experiences, and perspectives make us better at what we do.

If you don't meet every requirement listed above, apply anyway. We're more interested in how you think than in a tidy CV.
