Are you ready to take on a Band 7 leadership role in our Large Paediatric Diabetes MDT?

The Bristol Paediatric Diabetes Unit (PDU) is currently the largest in the Southwest and the Second Largest in England. We provide a local service for children and young people from the Bristol, North Somerset and South Gloucestershire area. In addition we take referrals for specialist care for families from across the South West and nationally.

Our Paediatric Diabetes Nursing team currently supports around 500 children and young people—predominantly with type 1 diabetes, alongside a growing number with type 2—using a wide range of diabetes treatments including: Multiple Daily Insulin injections, Hybrid Closed Loop systems, Biguanides, and GLP-1 Receptor Agonists.

The role includes both hospital and community‑based practice across the Bristol and Weston area. The postholder will working collaboratively within the multidisciplinary team taking on a leadership role at one of our five clinic sites alongside managing a caseload of patients autonomously. A key part of this role is driving service development and innovation to enhance outcomes, improve patient experience, and support the continued growth of the paediatric diabetes service.

Working in a demanding environment, the successful applicant will be required to:

• Lead on a designated clinic and independently manage a case load of patients
• Deliver technology starts, respond to urgent calls from patients for advice, review data and offer insulin dose adjustment.
• Provide Diabetes care and education to inpatients
• Possess excellent communication skills
• Possess sound knowledge of paediatric diabetes; aetiology and treatment

Have the ability to work both autonomously and as a member of the nursing team/MDT

Demonstrate self-direction and a willingness to develop their skills

Excellent organisational, prioritisation and problem-solving skills

The ability to provide diabetes education to patients, carers, staff and other agencies.

The ability to work flexibly and manage change in a positive and effective way

Demonstrate resilience with a fast paced and unpredictable workload
