Main duties of the job

As our Paediatric High Dependency Practice Educator, you will work closely with the Senior Nursing Team, Ward Managers, and Learning and Development colleagues to ensure our staff receive high quality, hands on clinical education. You will be visible on the shop floor, actively supporting staff with real time guidance, structured on the job teaching, and skills development in the paediatric high dependency environment.

Your work will directly contribute to strengthening the capability of the team, improving patient experience, and supporting safe, effective care delivery.

A teaching and or a mentorship qualification and previous experience in an education or supervisory role are desirable but not essential we welcome applicants who bring passion and the right attitude, and we will support your development.

Job responsibilities

• Provide bedside clinical teaching, coaching, and support to nurses working within the paediatric high dependency pathway
• Facilitate the development of competence in managing acutely unwell children and those requiring enhanced monitoring
• Support staff through formal and informal learning: simulations, skills sessions, competency signoff, and reflective practice
• Promote a positive learning culture that empowers staff and builds confidence

Assist with identifying learning needs and developing structured training plans

Ensure best practice, guidelines, and quality standards are embedded in day today clinical care

Contribute to service development and education initiatives that enhance safety and quality

Support new starters, student nurses, and internationally educated nurses as they transition into practice.

Qualifications

• Current RNC registration with NMC and any other relevant post registration qualifications
• Evidence of Level 6 Study
• Substantial clinical experience in a paediatric high dependency setting
• Practice assessor and practice supervisor skills
• Demonstrable competency in assessing, planning, delivering and evaluating care for children requiring high dependency support

• Level 7 Masters level study in education, advanced practice, leadership, or paediatric specialty
• Formal teaching qualification (e.g., PGCert in Education)
