Planning Manager

Location: St Albans (Office-Based – 5 Days per Week)

Sector: Civil Engineering & Infrastructure

Employment Type: Permanent

Salary: £75,000 - £90,000


We’re working with a well established civil engineering contractor to recruit an experienced Planning Manager or Senior Planner to support the planning and delivery of infrastructure projects.


This role will involve leading planning activities across multiple projects while working closely with Project Managers, Commercial teams and operational leadership to ensure programmes are robust, accurate and aligned with delivery requirements.


The Role:

You will take responsibility for managing the planning function and ensuring strong programme governance across projects. This includes maintaining accurate programmes, managing risk and opportunities, and ensuring progress reporting meets contractual requirements.

Working closely with project and commercial teams, you will also support tender development, programme planning and change management

throughout the project lifecycle.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and support the planning team on a day-to-day basis, including mentoring and development.
  • Develop and maintain project programmes using Primavera P6.
  • Ensure alignment between Operations, Commercial and Planning teams to maintain programme accuracy.
  • Provide transparent reporting on project progress, risks and opportunities.
  • Ensure programmes and progress reports are updated and submitted to clients in line with contractual requirements.
  • Undertake planning audits and reviews to maintain high planning standards.
  • Support the tender process and assist with programme development from first principles.
  • Work closely with Project Managers and Commercial teams to manage programme-related compensation events.
  • Build strong relationships with clients and represent the business in planning meetings.


What We're Looking For:

  • Experience working as a Planning Manager or Senior Planner within civil engineering or infrastructure.
  • Previous experience managing or mentoring planners.
  • Strong knowledge of Primavera P6 and NEC3 or NEC4 contracts.
  • Experience working with Tier 1 contractors and managing stakeholder relationships.
  • Strong communication and leadership skills.
  • Full UK Drivers Licence
