Principal Platform Engineer
Salary: Up To £300,000 Total Package
Location: London (Hybrid working – 3 days in office per week)
I’m currently working with a highly regarded Investment Management firm undergoing a significant technology transformation as they build out a cloud-native infrastructure platform following their migration.
They are looking for a Platform Engineer to join a small but highly capable engineering team responsible for designing and building the infrastructure platform that will support the entire organisation. This platform will underpin all areas of the business – from Software Engineering and Quant Research to Risk and Trading – meaning the work here has a direct impact on how the firm operates day-to-day.
This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who enjoys working on complex infrastructure challenges, operating with a high degree of autonomy, and solving problems where the solution isn’t always immediately obvious. You’ll be joining a team of engineers with deep expertise in cloud infrastructure who regularly collaborate with developers and quant researchers to ensure the platform can support high-performance research and trading systems.
The role requires someone comfortable operating across cloud engineering, platform engineering and DevOps, with enough software engineering capability to integrate infrastructure with the business’s application layer.
Responsibilities
• Design and build the cloud infrastructure platform supporting the firm’s broader technology ecosystem.
• Work closely with software engineers and quant researchers to ensure the infrastructure platform can support business-critical research and trading workloads.
• Solve complex infrastructure and platform problems, often working through ambiguity to design practical technical solutions.
• Build automation and tooling to improve scalability, reliability and operational efficiency across the platform.
• Contribute to architectural decisions around cloud infrastructure, platform design and system integration.
• Communicate technical decisions clearly to both engineering teams and business stakeholders.
Requirements
• Strong background in Cloud Engineering, DevOps or Platform Engineering within complex technical environments.
• Experience building and managing infrastructure within AWS (some Azure exposure beneficial).
• Ability to operate beyond pure infrastructure configuration – comfortable integrating infrastructure with application environments.
• Experience using Python for automation and tooling.
• Strong experience with Terraform and infrastructure-as-code principles.
• Comfortable solving higher-level engineering problems and working through technical ambiguity.
• Strong communication skills and experience working closely with software engineers and technical stakeholders.
If you’re a Platform Engineer looking to work on high-impact infrastructure problems within a collaborative engineering environment, and want to play a key role in building a platform that will support an entire investment organisation, then click apply or reach out directly – c.turner@lawrenceharvey.com
