Pride in Place Neighbourhood Board Member - Twerton and Whiteway

At Bath & North East Somerset Council we have one overriding purpose to improve people’s lives.

Hours: At minimum one Board meeting every 6 weeks engagement till 30/04/2027

Payment: Reasonable expenses (travel, childcare etc.)

Bath & North East Somerset Council is inviting 8 passionate members of the Twerton and Whiteway community to submit Expressions of Interests for the Pride in Place Neighbourhood Board. Members will be appointed by the Chairperson. A separate application process is underway for this role.

Pride in Place is bringing up to £20 million of funding to Twerton and Whiteway to help improve opportunities for everyone over the next ten years. The programme is community-led and puts decision making in hands of local people. Any member of the local community can get involved and play a part.

A new Neighbourhood Board will be set up to manage the programme and be champions of the local community. As a member of the Board you will support the Chairperson, help to provide strategic oversight of the programme and be an advocate for Twerton and Whiteway.

There are no specific qualifications or job description for this role, but you must be:

• Passionate about Twerton and Whiteway

Fair and balanced

Open to a collaborative and inclusive approach to decision making

Open to learning and development opportunities

Able to meet the time commitment

The Board should have a broad range of voices and perspectives and reflect the community it will serve. The majority (51%) should live or work within Twerton and Whiteway, other positions may be filled by community representatives.

Community Representative May Include:

• Community leaders, organisers and activists
• Cultural, arts, heritage and sporting organisations,
• Public agencies and anchor institution
  
  

We encourage all members of the community to submit an Expression of Interest however we will look to avoid any familial connections amongst Board members.

Elected officials are prevented from applying for the Neighbourhood Board, however per the national guidance the MP and at least one Ward Councillor will sit on the Board. As expressed in guidance the number of elected representatives on the Board should be limited to promote community leadership.

Location: Flexible with an expectation to attend in-person Board meetings, meet members of the community and attend site visits, meetings and events in Twerton and Whiteway

: To be determined. Once appointed the Chairperson may invite prospective candidates for an informal conversation. These are likely to take place throughout April 2026.

• Why you are passionate about the local community
• What skills, qualities and experience you will bring to the Neighbourhood Board that will benefit the wider community and the Pride in Place programme
  
  

Following the closing date, candidates may be invited by the Chairperson for an informal conversation. These are likely to take place throughout April. We anticipate that the Board will be fully appointed by the beginning of May and with the first Board meeting taking place the same month.

As vested members of the community, it is reasonable that applicants may have interests that may indirectly benefit from the Board’s work. This does not preclude individuals from applying for Board positions, but a register of interest must be filled out.
