Principal Electrode Process Engineer – Li‑ion Battery Cell Development
Location: Oxford, UK
Function: Cell Development – Electrode Process Development
Reporting to: Head of Formulation and Electrode Manufacturing, Cell Technology & Product Strategy
The Opportunity
Agratas is building the next generation of high‑performance battery technology, and we are looking for a Principal Electrode Process Engineer to play a pivotal role in shaping our electrode development capability. This is a unique opportunity to work at the forefront of Li‑ion battery innovation, collaborating closely with R&D and Cell Development teams to design, optimise, and scale electrode manufacturing processes from laboratory to mass production.
You will lead the formulation of anode and cathode slurries, analyse process and quality data, and drive improvements that directly enhance electrode performance and cell efficiency. As a subject matter expert, you will also support global teams, share best practices, and help build technical capability across the organisation.

- Electrode Process Development: Define and optimise slurry formulations, coating parameters, and calendering processes for anode and cathode electrodes. Improve process stability, quality, and throughput across R&D, pilot, and production environments.
- Strong understanding of Li‑ion battery components, with deep expertise in electrode behaviour and performance drivers.
- Hands‑on experience with electrode fabrication equipment across R&D, pilot, and mass‑manufacturing scales.
- Proven ability to formulate slurries and adjust process parameters to resolve fabrication issues.
- Skilled in analysing process and quality data to drive continuous improvement.
- PhD or Master’s degree in Engineering or a related technical discipline.
- 4–7 years of experience in electrode process development within the Li‑ion battery industry, spanning both R&D and manufacturing environments.
- Ability to influence and guide colleagues across functions and geographies.
- Proactive, solutions‑focused mindset with a commitment to high‑quality execution.
- Strong ownership and accountability in delivering technical outcomes.
