Description

Lead Process Engineer – Water & Clean Technology

A scaling clean-technology company transitioning from pilot systems to full-scale commercial deployment is seeking a Lead Process Engineer to drive the design, development, and scale-up of its water and environmental process technologies.

This is a senior, hands-on role for someone who thrives in high-growth environments, enjoys leading complex technical programs, and wants to make a meaningful impact on sustainable water infrastructure and environmental solutions. Experience in water treatment, wastewater treatment, desalination, or environmental process engineering is highly valued.

You will act as the technical lead for process engineering, working closely with R&D, project teams, and EPC partners to take the technology from pilot systems to full-scale commercial plants.

Experience

  • Degree in Chemical Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Experience in process engineering within water treatment, wastewater treatment, desalination, environmental engineering, or related process industries.
  • Proven experience scaling water treatment processes from pilot or demonstration systems to full-scale facilities.
  • Strong background in process design and simulation.
  • Experience with mass and energy balances, hydraulic design, and treatment process optimization.
  • Solid understanding of process safety, risk assessments, and environmental compliance, including participation in HAZOP, LOPA, or equivalent reviews where applicable.
  • Experience working with EPC contractors, equipment vendors, and construction teams during plant design and commissioning.
  • Experience in fast-growing companies, infrastructure projects, or large-scale treatment facilities is a strong advantage.
  • Demonstrated technical leadership, with experience mentoring engineers and guiding multidisciplinary teams.

  • Responsibilities

    • Own process design activities, including simulations, mass balances, hydraulic modelling, and development of PFDs and P&IDs.
    • Develop and execute process scale-up strategies, including pilot validation, performance testing, and risk-reduction plans.
    • Ensure processes meet performance, reliability, operability, and regulatory compliance requirements.
    • Lead and contribute to process safety and risk assessment activities (HAZOP, LOPA, design reviews, and environmental risk assessments).
  • Collaborate with R&D, mechanical, electrical, and project engineering teams to translate technologies into buildable and operable treatment facilities.
  • Act as the primary process engineering interface with EPC partners, vendors, regulators, and external stakeholders during project design and execution.
  • Establish engineering standards, best practices, and workflows for the process engineering team.
  • Mentor and support junior and mid-level engineers, providing technical guidance and design reviews.
