Principal Radiotherapy Physicist - Advanced

Brachytherapy at Guy's Cancer Centre is entering one of the most exciting periods in its history, and we're looking for someone who wants to help lead the journey.

As Deputy Head of Brachytherapy Physics, you'll play a key role in shaping how our service grows and develops over the coming years. You'll lead a supportive and motivated team, helping people build confidence and develop their skills, while making sure we continue to give patients safe, high-quality care.

Our service covers a wide range of treatments, including prostate and gynaecological cancers as well as more specialist work. With a major upgrade of our equipment on the horizon, this is a rare opportunity to influence how brachytherapy is delivered in the future.

This role is perfect for someone who enjoys leading people, improving services, and turning ideas into practical changes that benefit patients and staff alike.

Qualifications

Essential

• Good (1st or 2nd class) honours degree in a relevant subject
• Relevant MSc or higher degree
• Qualified to act as a Medical Physics Expert (MPE) under IRMER in the field of radiotherapy

Professional Registration

Essential

• State registration as a Clinical Scientist

Desirable

• Full Member of the Institute of Physics and Engineering in Medicine (or equivalent)

Experience

Essential

• Highly developed specialist knowledge across the full range of working procedures and practices in radiotherapy physics, building on theoretical knowledge and practical experience.
• Specialist training on and practical experience with a wide range of radiotherapy equipment and clinical applications
• Advanced knowledge in a major area of radiotherapy physics such as external beam treatment planning, radiotherapy equipment, imaging, dosimetry or brachytherapy.
• Advanced responsible experience post registration working in radiotherapy physics
• Specialist training and practical experience on linear accelerators, treatment planning, imaging, dosimetry and brachytherapy systems.

Desirable

• Experience of involvement in original peer-reviewed radiotherapy research
• Supervision of small project teams
