Producer, Evening Show (Casual)

Your Role: You will use your great judgement and news and current affairs knowledge to produce industry leading shows. You’ll be in charge of the show and work closely with the presenter to oversee all the content, run the team, and ensure there is a plentiful supply of fresh ideas for stimulating, original news, current affairs and culture-led content.

Day to day you will:

• Be responsible for selecting the stories and topics which feature on the day’s programme, and have a great understanding of the sorts of stories which the Talk audience will be engaged with and what is getting the nation talking.
• Liaise with the presenter about how the stories could be approached on air, and you’ll work with the Assistant Producer to contact and book guests that will appear on the programme.
• The role requires close collaboration with the programme's presenter to develop the on-air treatment and editorial line for all featured stories, ensuring the content is engaging, accurate, and aligns with the show's tone and objectives. A critical component of this position involves coordinating with the Assistant Producer to proactively identify, contact, and secure a diverse and authoritative range of guests including MPs, expert commentators and newsmaking contributors in a timely manner for scheduled appearances on the programme. This collaborative effort is essential to ensure the show is well-researched and features compelling voices pertinent to the day's news agenda.
• Be responsible for how the programme appears visually on air. You’ll collaborate with Video Producers and the Multicam Operator, and lead the charge on: what’s in the topic strap; which video clips are played out; what underlay is used to provide colour to illustrate the item.
• Write scripts when needed, update the daily running order and provide briefing notes for on-air talent as and when appropriate
• Oversee the show daily podcast production and upload process, ensuring all content is editorially and technically of the highest quality. Additionally, manage the archiving of significant show moments for use in promotional campaigns, 'Best Of' compilations, and award submissions.

• Strong understanding of the OFCOM code, guidelines, and media law.
• A trusted pair of hands with an excellent understanding of relevant compliance and legal issues.
• Ability to work in a fast-changing newsroom environment, prioritising stories, guests, and deadlines effectively.

Programme Production and Content:

• Experience in producing agenda-setting national radio coverage.
• An ambitious nature, always striving for the highest quality output.
• Excellent ideas for original, creative, and varied programme content.
• Strong technical abilities, including audio editing and cue-writing, with a willingness to learn new systems.
• A creative mind and the ability to think differently.

Knowledge and Contacts:

• A passion for news, politics, and current affairs.
• Have an extensive contacts book and know how best to approach new voices.
