McBraida is a leading and innovative manufacturing company specialising in precision components for the aerospace industry. We take pride in our strong focus on innovation, efficiency, and customer satisfaction. We’re pioneers in aerospace engineering. Across our two facilities we have a total of 70 CNC machines; the majority of these are milling and turning centres, but we also have excellent grinding and EDM (electrical discharge machining) capabilities to manufacture the more difficult and intricate features. We produce components for the leading aerospace companies in the civil, commercial, military and marine industries.


We have an exciting opportunity, for a hardworking individual, to join our production team as a Production Manager.


As a Production Manager at McBraida, you will be part of the team responsible for the day to day leadership and performance of the manufacturing operation at our Bristol site. Reporting to the Group Production Manager, you will ensure the safe, efficient and timely delivery of precision aerospace components to both internal and external customers.


This role has direct responsibility for Team Leaders and their respective teams. You will play a key part in translating business objectives into practical production plans, maintaining operational control, and driving continuous improvement across the shop floor. This is a hands-on leadership role requiring strong technical understanding, clear communication and a consistent presence within the manufacturing areas.


Main Duties and Responsibilities

As an integral part of the production leadership team, you will be responsible for:

  • Contributing to cost control by managing labour efficiency, consumables usage and overtime in line with expectations.
  • Allocating resources including labour, materials and equipment to ensure efficient utilisation and balanced workflow.
  • Leading and managing Team Leaders and production teams to achieve daily and weekly output targets in line with the production plan.
  • Executing the agreed production schedule to meet customer delivery requirements, ensuring on time and in full performance.
  • Monitoring and improving key performance indicators including safety, quality, cost, delivery and productivity.
  • Overseeing the manufacture of complex aerospace components, ensuring adherence to engineering drawings and specifications.
  • Working closely with Manufacturing Engineering, Quality and Planning teams to resolve technical and operational issues.
  • Ensuring compliance with AS9100, customer specific requirements and internal quality management systems.
  • Driving a strong culture of right first time, root cause analysis and robust corrective action.
  • Supporting new product introduction activities, including process readiness, capacity planning and risk mitigation.
  • Managing and supporting Total Productive Maintenance activities, ensuring equipment remains capable, reliable and fit for purpose.
  • Identifying production risks such as capacity constraints, skills gaps or material shortages and implementing mitigation plans.
  • Promoting and enforcing high standards of health, safety, process, procedure and environmental compliance at all times.
  • Leading regular performance reviews with Team Leaders, setting clear expectations and supporting development.
  • Supporting recruitment, training and succession planning within the production teams.
  • Driving continuous improvement initiatives using structured problem solving and recognised improvement tools.
  • Maintaining a strong shop floor presence, reviewing standards, validating processes and ensuring adherence to the McBraida way of working.

  • Required Experience and Skills

    We are looking for a motivated and capable Production Manager with:

    • Proven experience in a production or manufacturing leadership role within a precision engineering or aerospace environment.
    • Strong technical understanding of CNC machining processes including milling and turning operations.
    • Experience leading supervisors or team leaders in a high mix, low to medium volume manufacturing setting.
    • Good working knowledge of quality systems and aerospace standards such as AS9100.
    • Demonstrable experience in managing performance through KPIs and delivering measurable operational improvements.
    • A practical approach to problem solving with the ability to analyse root causes and implement sustainable solutions.
    • A clear understanding of health, safety and environmental responsibilities within a manufacturing environment.
    • Strong communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with shop floor teams and senior management.

    • Competence in interpreting engineering drawings and technical documentation.
    • Good numerical and analytical skills with sound commercial awareness.
