Description

Project Manager – Capital Works / Building Consultancy

Location: Birmingham (Hybrid Working Available)

About the Opportunity

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Project Manager to join a well-established property consultancy team delivering capital works and refurbishment projects across a significant UK infrastructure property portfolio.

This role sits within a multidisciplinary property team responsible for asset management, property management and capital works project delivery across a diverse portfolio of operational buildings.

The successful candidate will play a key role in planning, coordinating and delivering refurbishment and improvement works across multiple sites.

Projects are typically refurbishment, compliance and improvement works across existing buildings, rather than large-scale new developments.

The Role

As Project Manager, you will be responsible for delivering refurbishment and capital works projects across a large property portfolio on behalf of a major infrastructure client.

Working within a consultancy environment, you will act on behalf of the client to coordinate contractors, consultants and internal stakeholders, ensuring projects are delivered safely, on programme and within budget.

The role involves managing multiple projects simultaneously across operational buildings, requiring strong organisational skills, clear communication and effective contractor management.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage refurbishment and capital works projects from initial planning through to completion and handover
  • Deliver projects across multiple operational buildings within a large property portfolio
  • Coordinate contractors, consultants and project stakeholders
  • Monitor project programme, budget and delivery milestones
  • Ensure projects are delivered in accordance with CDM regulations and health & safety standards
  • Manage contractor procurement, appointment and performance
  • Identify and manage project risks and implement mitigation strategies
  • Provide regular reporting on programme, cost, risk and project progress
  • Liaise with property managers and occupiers to coordinate works within operational environments
  • Ensure quality standards are maintained across all project phases

Project Types

Projects delivered by the team may include:

  • Building fabric refurbishment programmes
  • Mechanical and electrical upgrades
  • Compliance and statutory works
  • Office and operational building improvements
  • Sustainability and energy efficiency upgrades
  • General capital works and refurbishment across operational assets

Projects are typically delivered across multiple sites simultaneously rather than one large construction project.

Candidate Profile

We are looking for a Project Manager with experience delivering construction or refurbishment projects within a property or construction consultancy environment.

Candidates should have a strong track record of managing contractors and consultants while delivering projects through the full lifecycle.

Essential Experience

  • Proven experience working as a Project Manager within a property or construction consultancy environment
  • Experience delivering refurbishment or capital works projects
  • Experience managing contractors, consultants and project stakeholders
  • Strong understanding of construction project delivery processes
  • Knowledge of CDM regulations and construction health & safety
  • Experience managing project programmes, budgets and reporting
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously

  • Desirable Experience

    • Experience delivering projects across property portfolios or operational buildings
    • Experience working within a team that includes asset managers or property managers
    • Experience delivering capital works within infrastructure, commercial or public sector property environments
    • Professional qualification in construction, building surveying, engineering or project management
