  • Provide management and organisation of a clinical area.
  • Assess, plan, implement and evaluate evidenced-based nursing care within a quality, recovery focused service for patients.
  • Contribute to the education, development and line management of staff members within the outpatient team.
  • Undertake management responsibilities in the absence of the outpatient Manager.

Main duties of the job

Act as a clinical role model for Band 5 nurses, Students and support staff.

Provide specialist maxillo facial care for patients with facial trauma, head and neck cancer and reconstructive surgery.

Take responsibility for complex patient assessments.

Take charge of shifts or clinical areas when required.

Detailed Job Description And Main Responsibilities

Responsible for the assessment of patient nursing care needs, and the development, implementation and the evaluation of programmes of care to meet those needs.

Work as part of a multidisciplinary team, encouraging and when required participating in therapies ensuring effective delivery.

Attend and contribute to relevant meetings and reviews, hearings and care and treatment planning meetings, providing written and verbal reports as required.

Ensure patients and Carer/relatives are involved in the planning and delivery of care.

Ensure effective communication is established and maintained with patie
nts and carers/relatives.

Ensure patients’ needs are met by working collaboratively with other professionals and agencies in relation to ongoing care needs.

Undertake research, benchmarking and clinical audit in clinical practise.

Demonstrate the impact of the post, contributing to progressive reviews and regularly capturing and returning outcome and performance metrics.

Provide advanced evidence-based nursing therapies, Pharmacological/non pharmacological interventions, diagnostic measures, equipment, procedures to meet the needs of the patient and family. This will be in accordance with professional preparation, institutional policies and scope of practise.

Collect, collate, evaluate and report information, maintaining accurate patient records.

Contribute to the development of local protocols and procedures.

Recognise and respond appropriately to urgent and emergency situations.

Communicate sensitive information and provide psychological and emotional support to patients, their families and carers by utilising a wide range of communication and interpersonal skills. These may include persuasion, motivation, negotiation. Effective communication skills will be required to give training with empathy and re-assurance. The recognition of difficulty in understanding and breaking down of barriers to ensure a clear understanding is gained by the patient and family/carers.

  • 1st level nurse NMC registration
  • Relevant Post-Graduate Diploma Knowledge, training and/or experience
  • Surgical expertise to harvest skin grafts and carry out biopsies within a minor operative theatre

  • Welsh Language Skills are desirable levels 1 to 5 in understanding, speaking, reading, and writing in Welsh
  • Demonstrate teaching, mentoring and coaching skills
