About The Role

Registration Service Officer (Frontline)

Permanent, Part Time

£26,011 - £27,653.00

Location: Harlow

Working Style: Fixed-base worker

Average weekly hours: 18.5 hours

Hours: 8:50am - 5pm

Working pattern (four week rolling rota):

Week 1 – Wednesday, Thursday, Friday

Week 2 – Wednesday, Friday, Saturday

Week 3 – Wednesday, Friday

Week 4 – Wednesday, Friday

Base: Harlow Library with the expectation to work from Epping Library

The Opportunity

The Registration Service Officer (Frontline) is an essential front-line role, responsible for delivering one of the core elements of service delivery for the Essex Registration Service. Primarily responsible for registering Births, Deaths and Stillbirths, as well as taking Notices of Intent for Marriages and Civil Partnerships, the role requires organisation, attention to detail and good working knowledge of Microsoft applications.

The role is fully trained, ensuring the competency and expertise to undertake all legislative and statutory duties and functions in compliance with General Register Office (GRO) governance and regulations, to meet Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) set out in the code of practice. The role also interacts with internal and external colleagues, partners and stakeholders to achieve desired outcomes.

The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work in one of the largest and highest performing registration authorities in the country, alongside a highly dedicated, passionate team. The Essex Registration Service believes in delivering the best possible service to the residents of Essex, providing essential services during the most momentous and emotional events in someone’s life.

Please note that the job role requires you to be mobile throughout an operational area. Therefore, the post holder will need to have a driving licence and access to a vehicle,
or the ability to meet the mobility requirements of the role through other means.

Accountabilities

  • Responsible for ensuring Registrations are completed in an accurate and timely manner, and regulations are adhered to as set out in the Handbooks for Registration Officers.
  • Work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders and partners to define requirements and complete accurate Registrations.
  • Utilise specialist skills, knowledge and experience to ensure the effectiveness of the Registration activities.
  • Maintain a high standard of customer service, while being empathetic to the sensitive nature of the appointments.
  • Understand the impact and reasoning behind agreed service levels and KPIs set out by GRO.
  • Responsible for ensuring compliance with internal and external regulation systems such as end of day accounting and stock management.
  • Responsible for working flexibly and collaboratively across structural boundaries as part of project and process teams in support of key outcomes.
  • Understand our responsibility in adhering to legislation and practices surrounding data protection and confidentiality.
  • Participate in service improvement initiatives, supporting colleagues and providing feedback in a professional and constructive way.

  • Attention to detail with proven skills in delivering high quality, accurate outcomes in a relevant service.
  • Understanding of confidentiality and data protection legislation.
  • Ability to adapt and manage a workload with differing priorities.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office and web-based applications and the ability to navigate between them easily.
  • Educated to ‘A’ level/NVQ 3 or equivalent by experience.
