The County Council’s Registration and Celebratory Service aims to deliver the best possible service to those officially registering life’s most significant events; births, deaths, marriages, civil partnerships or gaining citizenship. We are also responsible for maintaining those records securely in perpetuity and, upon request, issuing certified copies of records for official and legal purposes.
We are looking to fill 30hrs per week with, ideally, 2 people in a Registration Support Officer role. This role is the first point of contact for the majority of customers and provides vital clerical and administrative support to the team, ensuring the smooth running of the office. Day to day tasks include: making appointments; taking payments; helping customers on a wide range of issues face to face, by telephone or in writing, providing exceptional customer service at all times; making ceremony bookings; production of copy certificates; maintenance of paper and electronic records, spreadsheets, databases and office systems; dealing with finance and procurement issues. There is also the requirement to be trained to register and conduct marriages and civil partnerships in the office, as and when required.
We are looking for someone with enthusiasm and drive, sensitivity and courteousness, to help us achieve our high ambitions for service delivery to all our customers. You will need excellent organisational skills, the highest levels of accuracy and attention to detail, a strong customer focus, as well as a flexible approach to working in this busy team environment. You will need to be competent in the use of a range of IT systems. Adherence to legislation, strict rules of confidentiality and working within the Data Protection Act are also key requirements. The training given and experience gained will give a good basic knowledge of registration matters, which may afford the opportunity to apply for other registration roles in the future.

Disabled applicants who meet the essential shortlisting requirements will be guaranteed an interview. A job share scheme is available for all full-time posts: both permanent and temporary, unless otherwise stated. We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults and we expect all staff to share this commitment and undergo appropriate checks.
