Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the planning, coordination and oversight of the Synergy release into an assigned cluster department and its Arm’s Length Bodies (ALBs), ensuring delivery to agreed scope and timelines.
  • Act as the central liaison point for all departmental release activity, working closely with stakeholders, suppliers and technical experts across the Synergy Programme.
  • Oversee the full end‑to‑end delivery lifecycle, coordinating activity across design, development, testing and cutover in a complex technical environment
  • Define and own the programme’s Release Management strategy, including establishing an in‑house Release Management capability and identifying future skills requirements.
  • Implement multi‑disciplinary release teams and align work across interdependent workstreams with the Integrated Plan, Critical Path and Service Readiness Criteria.
  • Establish and maintain release management processes and governance, ensuring clear communication of plans, progress and impacts to senior stakeholders.
  • Manage dependencies, risks, issues and schedule conflicts across workstreams, ensuring appropriate mitigation and escalation to the Deputy Director where required.
  • Provide strong leadership to a delivery‑focused Delivery Management team and work collaboratively with the G6 Delivery Management cadre to embed lessons learned into future releases.

    Essential Criteria

    • Release Management Expertise: Experience of delivering the release of new services within a complex programme environment. This includes coordinating multiple release components and managing structured release cycles to support timely and controlled deployment of services. (LEAD CRITERIA)
    • Planning and Coordination of Interdependent Workstreams: Proven ability to plan, sequence and coordinate delivery activity across interdependent workstreams. This involves aligning workstream plans with programme milestones, scope and dependencies to maintain a coherent delivery approach.
    • End‑to‑End Delivery Oversight (Design to Cutover): Experience overseeing end‑to‑end delivery across design, development, testing and cutover stages. This includes working with cross‑functional teams to ensure all elements of a release are prepared and capable of being delivered to agreed timescales.
  • Governance, Reporting and Risk Management: Ability to establish and operate effective governance, reporting and monitoring arrangements. This includes identifying and managing risks, issues and dependencies, and escalating where appropriate to maintain delivery confidence.
  • Problem‑Solving and Issue Resolution: Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills, with the ability to anticipate and resolve delivery challenges. This includes taking ownership of issues, identifying practical solutions and maintaining progress in a fast‑moving environment.
  • Stakeholder Engagement and Relationship Management: Experience working with a wide range of stakeholders, including suppliers, technical specialists and operational teams. This includes communicating complex information clearly and developing positive, collaborative working relationships.
