Description

Teer Coatings Ltd is a specialist in advanced thin-film coating technologies, designing and manufacturing PVD and PACVD equipment and providing high-performance coating solutions to customers across sectors such as automotive, aerospace, cutting tools and precision engineering. Our technologies help improve wear resistance, performance and lifetime of critical components, supporting innovation in demanding industrial applications.​


We are looking for a Research Engineer to join our R&D team, combining hands-on experimentation, hardware development and cross‑functional collaboration to advance our PVD coating equipment and technologies. Reporting to the R&D Manager, you will deliver research projects, drive new product development and support our strategic technology roadmap and future coating system sales.​


What you’ll be doing

  • Planning, managing and executing R&D activities within agreed project plans, timelines and goals.​
  • Designing and conducting experiments, analysing data to identify trends, insights and performance improvements.​
  • Performing and coordinating thin‑film characterisation to understand coating and equipment performance.​
  • Developing company and grant‑funded research programmes focused on PVD equipment and hardware innovation.​
  • Driving NPD activities from prototype through to industrialisation, ensuring safety, functionality and lifetime performance.​
  • Working with R&D and design teams on system design developments and continuous improvement initiatives.​
  • Preparing technical reports and presentations and supporting technical papers and conference presentations to grow our external reputation.​

  • What we’re looking for

    • Degree (BSc/MSc or equivalent) in materials science, engineering, physics or a related scientific field.​
    • Experience in a research or industrial development environment, ideally with capital equipment or advanced manufacturing.​
    • Experience with PVD/PACVD/CVD coating equipment and thin‑film technologies.​
    • Strong problem‑solving skills and the ability to manage projects independently as well as within a team.​
    • Clear, confident communication skills, with the ability to present technical data and build relationships with colleagues, customers and suppliers.​
