The Clinical Research Fellow Post is a demanding but exciting opportunity in a busy quaternary vascular centre leading over £5million of NIHR funded research.. The aim of the post is to facilitate the delivery of national research projects and initiatives by leading recruitment to trials and participating in the regular research team meetings. Overall, this post will provide core research skills for onward application to higher training. The post will enable the applicant to participate in research projects and opportunities with a view to outputs such as presentations and potentially publications. The clinical aspect to the research post will be to support the SHO/RSO level on-call rota in General Surgery, and support the Vascular Surgery team in elective work.
Job description
Surgical on call at SHO/RSO level resident on call; 1 in 7 for day-time/weekend on call and 1 in 10 for night-time resident on-call for Freeman Hospital based surgical specialties. Ward work Ward rounds, supervision of FY1s and on-call cover Out-patient clinic participation Operating Experience Assisting with emergency and planned operations.

Education and Qualifications
Essential
- Primary Medical Qualification.
- Full GMC registration or eligibility to obtain this within 3 months (or within 6 months for non-EEA applicants).
- Sign-off for Foundation training or equivalent.
Desirable
- Full-MRCS qualification
Clinical Skills and Knowledge
Essential
- Prior experience of working in the NHS environment (minimum of 24-months).
- Good history & examination skills.
- Able to formulate a working diagnosis.
- Able to order appropriate investigations.
- Image interpretation relevant to practice.
- Knows when to appropriately seek assistance from a senior colleague.
Management and Administration Experience
Essential
- Ability to run a service and participate in management process.
- Committed to share in professional, managerial and teaching responsibilities necessary to fulfil the obligations of the Directorate to the Trust and its workforce.
- Able to communicate well with patients and colleagues.
- An understanding of Clinical Governance.
Desirable
- Proven management and administration ability.
- Understanding of management goals.
- Evidence of leadership / project management
Teaching
Essential
- Experience of supervising junior staff.
- Ability to teach clinical skills.
Clinical Governance, Audit and Research

- Experience of audit projects.
- Experience of participating in research projects previously.
- Must hold the Good Clinical Practice training certificate.
Desirable
- Experience of research recruitment and/or research engagement
- Previous experience in manuscript writing / publication.
