Description
Job Description

We are looking for a highly motivated individual to join the Protein Purification Team as a Research Scientist with a primary responsibility to express and purify a range of recombinant protein components for our disruptive nanopore sequencing technology. This will be carried out by both following established protocols and developing novel methods.

The Details

We are looking for a highly motivated individual to join the Protein Purification Team as a Research Scientist with a primary responsibility to express and purify a range of recombinant protein components for our disruptive nanopore sequencing technology. This will be carried out by following established protocols and establishing new methods where required.

As one of the key components of our technology, we continuously strive to improve and upgrade our protein components whilst simultaneously developing new methods of expression and purification. Working within a focused team in the research department, this predominantly lab-based role will involve the purification and characterisation of a variety of enzyme motor proteins, nanopores and other novel targets.

The successful candidate will be working alongside other research scientists to express and purify different proteins for electrophysiological characterisation and bulk kinetic assays. Expression and purification is carried out via traditional E.coli expression and high throughput expression utilising liquid handling robots.

What We're Looking For...

Applications from scientists with backgrounds in a relevant subject area, ideally with previous industrial experience, these include:

  • Biochemistry
  • Biology
  • Molecular Biology
  • Chemical Biology

You Will Have

  • A good working knowledge of recombinant protein expression, purification and subsequent characterisation
  • Hands on experience in working with AKTA systems, particularly in relation to nucleic acid handling proteins and membrane proteins.
  • Experience of liquid handing robots is desired but not essential
  • We are looking for applicants who can adapt quickly to new challenges and enjoy working with an agile approach to research!

You'll be used to working meticulously and to a high standard, as well as being able to perform well under pressure. You'll be used to meeting deadlines in a complex and fast paced environment.

Working within a dynamic, multidisciplinary team, successful candidates will be able to communicate results to other team members successfully. Full training will be given.
